Wondering who would have interest in another Rally Cross school? Last December the school was a great success and I'd like to see if we have enough of a crowd to throw another one. The classroom portion would be Saturday evening either at Morries Minnetonka Subaru or Davanni's like last year. The driving portion will be at Cannon Falls again. Respond with Yes or no... Thanks! Special note: No official timing at event. You DO NOT need to attend classroom portion in order to participate in driving day. There will be instructors present during the driving portion of the school so you will have real-time feedback from some of the top competitors! Fees: Non SCCA Member: $55.00 SCCA Members: $40.00 Dave SCCA LOL Region Rally Cross Coordinator
Great question.... It's primarily designed so a competitor/student can try new techniques without the worry of timing. You will have the opportunity to have one-on-one time with a ride-along instructor during 90%+ of your runs. The instructor will provide real-time feedback to you and help you learn how to navigate the course in the most efficient manner possible. Last year we had a fair amount of snow to work with so it made the driving portion a ton of fun!!!
would depend on what time the driving portion was as this is the part im more interested in. i work nights so i might have to take half the night off to attent
I would certainly suggest attending both class and driving portions if possible. Not everybody only needs seat time. Many also need to learn some basics of car control, what to do, why to do it, and how it works. The physics of car control and proper driver inputs are big parts. Seat times lets you apply knowledge, but you need the knowledge there first. Some people can be intuitively fast, but it's nice when it all makes sense too. One thing I wouldn't mind seeing are markers and a whiteboard to write on. I think one thing it could use is some practical examples like what to do if you come into a corner too fast or too slow, how to progress through certain course layouts, proper car positioning, braking points, and so on. One really great example would be an overhead view of a course and break down the whole course into a series of driver inputs, basically where are you lines, when are you accelerating, when are you braking, etc, basically an example of what you would do during your course walk and what you would try to optimize during your runs. It's just nice to have visuals for these kinds of things. It could be like a Q&A section where people could get help on problems they experienced during this last season or ask hypothetical questions like what should they do if they start spinning out in a certain situation or questions on driver inputs to get a car to move a certain way. I know a big part of this school is to introduce newcomers into the sport and cover some basics, but I know a good number of relatively seasoned drivers will be there too, and although I don't now how technical you might want it to get, it would be nice to have the freedom to sort of go there if people want. I know there are a lot of concepts people do not know and would probably want to know.
I am new to this forum. Not new to Subaru or rally, but this event sounds cool. Is this an event I bring my car to? Curious on more details of the event. Thanks!
The evening before the dirving portion of the event will be a classroom style setting with open discussion regarding techniques ranging from car preparation to driving techniques. The day of the event you will be on course with an instructor going over/attempting new techniques.
Update!!!! GANG: As of right now I'm in communication with the land owner. He will be ableto let me know Monday/Tuesday if the course is grooming enough for us to drive on. As it's stands right now the freeze came a bit early and he wasn't able to get the rough stuff smoothed out. So now we're waiting to see how much snow we get over the next few days...as that would help the surface conditions.
Can you tell me where the driving portion will be. I see Cannon Falls is mentioned. Any more details on that? Just curious. I can't come on Saturday, but I plan to be there on Sunday the 12th!
I'll know later today or tomorrow if the weather/course conditions will allow the school to happen. Otherwise instead of canceling it outright I might just push it back into Jan....when we will have more snow.
Still don't see anything clearly written about classroom time. Simple question if you can't answer it don't waste a comment
Update: Event postponed Everyone, I'm sorry to say that I need to hold off on the school. The course conditions are just too rough and people would be breaking suspensions left and right. I'm going to stay in communication with the landowner and we're going to try for Jan or Feb.
Thanks for letting us know, Dave! Look forward to it later. If we get too much snow in the coming months, will it be cancelled or do they have some equipment to move the snow around?
No problem Bri! I will do anything in my power to make sure "too much" snow doesn't cancel the event....and yes, the landowner has equipment to move/remove snow.
