the red envelopes is a chinese tradition where the elders give the kids this red envelope. this envelope contains cash and is a means to share prosperity and care. Of course there is much sociopolitical connotations and undertones as often chinese kids were poor. i remember receiving these envelopes as a child and i will continue the tradition when i have kids. so i hope you guys have a better understanding now.
