Mark Gottwalt Vice President - Glacier Lakes Quattro Club
Hi Mark, Thanks for taking the time to personally inviting us to GLQC events. This is a great opportunity considering this week is expected to be above freezing. I'll check my odd working schedule and perhaps I'll see you guys out there the following weeks or at the next BMW and Audi joint events. Thanks, Cheech
Welcome to the Subie forum Mark! I was at the Jan 25th event. Quattro club officers and members are very respectful. It was a lot of fun and I recommend it. BTW, no recap from the 25th event yet? I was hoping to see if I managed to clock the worst time of the day.
Wow my fiancee lives maybe a mile from there. Looks like a lot of fun but I already have plans tomorrow. Maybe I'll make the one on the 22nd.
Too bad I've got a crap load of homework to do... How structured is the event? I'm just curious if we are allowed to drive with reckless abandon...
Yes you can, but we prefer you pre-register on our website for administration purposes. It makes it easier for me to keep track of who's coming and easier data entry. Thank you.
Hi, thank you. Yea, I'm actually compiling the times now. Kinda stinks when we have to manually re-enter them from the manual time sheet. This last event I used the laptimer so it should be easier. Look for re-caps up soon. BTW, anyone with photos from Jan 25th, please post on flicker (or whereever) and send me the link. We had 4 planes fly in an land on the lake. Was really cool, I hear. Thanks again.
Well... they are structured enough to keep sanity and are set to accommodate 40 participants, from a schedule standpoint. However, we've had quite a few less than that and thus, the schedule gets loosened a bit. You can drive as crazy as you want with a few things in mind... 1. You NEVER mess around in the paddock area!! 2. Wait your turn. 3. You don't mind braking your bumpers (or worse) in the snow banks. 4. If you get stuck and need to be pulled out more than once, be ready to buy a case of beer for the plow truck guy . AND apologize to the other participants who have to wait for you. 5. Be willing to clock slow times. "Fast" is usually slow on the ice. You have to be smooth to be fast. That's about it. Hope to see you on the 22nd.
Event re-caps with timing results are now posted for Jan 25th and Feb 8th events. View them at http://www.glacierlakesqclub.org Hope to see more Subies on Feb 22nd Cheers!!
I was at the subaru snow event this weekend, but I went to the 25th one. Great event, though I will say that I witnessed one thing that bothered me: This only happened once or twice, but I saw someone cone picking on the slalom course and someone start doing the course before the guy was clear. As that ice was basically glass, it would have taken only a minor error to end in disaster. That might be worthy of a mention somewhere. I'm signed up for the Feb 22nd event and plan to attend PS: Are you the guy who has/had the ur-s6 wagon with the s cargo plate? I saw it a few times around St. Paul and it was amusing. edit: There was someone in an S8 taking pictures, I'd love to see em
That was a blast. Great conditions today, just the perfect amount of snow and nice soft snowbanks. http://www.glacierlakesqclub.org/category/event-recaps/ice-driving/ Thanks again to the Audi club for hosting this. I'll try to get the video of Jim's truck on the oval track posted. That thing was insane.
The truck is the guy who drags the IIRA cars around the track when we put them off the track or break down. The tires he runs are amazing.
+1 to what has been said. The day was easily on par with a day at BIR. Lot's of seat time and massive amounts of fun exploring traction limits. A big thanks to Mark and the Audi club for inviting us.
Jeremy posted a few of his event pics: http://www.digitalgopher.net/gallery/7445583_vb8JL/1/480180025_N3zkT
I think these are the pictures from the guy in the S8. http://photos.triad1.com/glqc/ my favorite photo from that page.
Nick (nm+), congrats. You did very well in these events with non-studded tires. Shows your driving skills indeed.
