going 16g...

    would a 02 wrx tranny hold a 16g? whould the cluthch hold a 16g? what else would i have to change besides fuel pumps, injectors and new intercooler and a good tune?

    current mods: turbo catless exhaust, up pipe, and running stage 2 cobb.

    Yes, Yes, and nothing.

    But, like the other have asked, you will be able to get some better performance out of your car with a little more info. I have also seen many tranny's break with the stock turbo, so it is more of a driver thing, then a turbo thing.

    Russ is right it depends on driver. But the stock trans should hold. The stock style clutch will hold. Weather or not your clutch is in good shape thats another story.
    I would recomend porting the TGV's too.

    I have about 5k miles on my EVO 16G with the stock tranny and a stock clutch with about 50k on it. No problems yet, but I haven't been launching any at all.

    I really want to see what I can do the quarter in right now, but I fear the stress on my drivetrain. I suppose I could start by doing some clutch burnout take offs, but I haven't resorted to that yet.

    So, answer.... I don't really know. From what I found out in my research before installing my turbo setup, as long as you don't do hard launches all day, you should be safe. It's not so much the force that the engine is able to put on the drivetrain, it is more so that shock capability that the engine gains with the new power.

    +1 wagonsrock. A hard launch will put a huge amount of torque on the diff and trans and axles. Wagonsrock Have you had your car dynod at all?

    sorry for the late reply's I'm basiclly a daily driver so i dont a lot of power but more in the middle range power so im guessing 280-320hp. my car has about 90xxx miles.

    also could you run open ECU with 16g, i was also thinking of getting a vf22 (can you run open ecu with vf 22?) if i didnt have enough cash for the 16g. what do you think is better.

    openecu is just that.. openly tuning to whatever the mods are and car is doing...

    If you are cheap, go with the vf22. Otherwise go with the 16g (big or evo3). IHI turbo's are a waste of money. If you do it right the first time with the 16g, you can always upgrade it to the 20g/green/red.

    thanks guys. whats the difference between the small, big and Evo 3? im i know they have more hp in each but since i will be a daily driver but will occasioally do some time attack at the track which would be a better choice?

    I had it tuned by DB a while back. Here are my dyno sheets....

    After seeing what Clark did to the other guys setup, I kind of want to go back into the shop and get my tune worked on some more. The DB dyno runs pretty low I heard, but I think I should be up in the 290 whp range. Also, I think there is a lot of torque left in my car to get out with a tune.
