Well I had an opportunity to go to the Gander Mtn Academy recently and tried out all their training programs they offer at the Lakeville, MN Store. I was quite pleased with my experience. The staff there were very knowledgeable and I got paired up with a retired Police Detective who walked me thru each program. They have multiple live simulations to help the novice shooter get acclimated to the sport like a virtual shooting range for example. They have a standard Glock fitted with a CO2 cartridge and modified slide to create the same effect you would from a real pistol's recoil. There is a laser light at the tip to interact with the screen to show you where your shots are going. Of course I thought the sights were off as I know I could shoot better then what I was seeing, but don't we all. lol After a few rounds of that and a few coaching tips and overview on gun safety, control and stance we proceeded to the 180' simulator where I got to play Cowboy and participated in a competition like target setting. I think I must of shot like 12 plate targets in just over 5 seconds. I didn't do so well on my second attempt, but oh well that's what happens when you start trying too hard instead of just letting your natural talents drive. My favorite was the 300' simulator. Of the four situational awareness training simulations I got shot twice. Three times in the back on my way to the car in a parking ramp after a Twins game. I got way distracted on this one, plus I was out numbered 4 to 1. Then I was in a small convenience store buying a drink in the evening when two fools came into the store and one confronted the clerk and shot him point blank. That's when I pulled out my Glock (one of my mooost favorite pistons lol) and bang bang he went down. His buddy showed up moments after, trying to make a run for the door, I managed to squeeze off two rounds but I took one in return even though I squatted down to one knee. The detective suggested I should always look for cover first, make myself very small and then utilize the store mirrors and wait patiently incase I have to engage. The last thing he showed me was their live gun range where I got to shoot 20 live rounds out of a real Glock at 25 yards. He question why I would shoot the center mass and then the head since it's a smaller target and you're accountable for each round. I explained I was trained to shoot for center mass as the primary and then rotate to head and hips as follows as the threat gets closer until the treat stops. Anyway that's the short version, I also learned that I need to work on my LOUD verbal commands and descriptions. The detective was very impressed with my accuracy and control, which was a huge compliment since I just got involved in the sport. I walked away with a great deal of knowledge from that whole experience. And tonight I'm going back with my lovely wife who can dead lift more then my body with. Trust me I eat lots of McDonald's fries! But I'm still a small fry. I encourage you to go check it out. https://gandermtnacademy.gandermountain.com/
Buys Evo - Races Cars Buys Prius - Saves Gas Money Thinks about selling Evo for Electric Car - Shoots people while in gas station getting soda No Turbo make Chong killer! Only solution - more TURBO
I just have this weird notion your response is inappropriate for this thread, may I suggest the following: http://www.mnsubaru.com/threads/what-do-you-do-for-a-hobby-s.40892/#post-676854 And to your point, your diagnosis is just a tad off just by a tiny bit; perhaps more rubber rather then boost may have sufficed.
No guns are fine. Chong with no turbo leads to dead people... he's already trying to rob Nuke for $130 (in all reality, I totally want to check this out)
I tell ya it was the little guy that hired me, you may know him as Fuji, he told me to take out the big boss. Mr. D I think you'd have fun at this place, you can even pretend you're drawing up against an Evo.
What do you have to worry about, you know the stereotype, WE can't drive! Especially a tiny little Taxi driver like me. psft In all honesty my entire experience only extends from GT5. For reals!
That sounds really cool. Do you need any type of permits/license? (of course I didnt click on the link and read it)
Great question, the answer is "NO" you do not need anytime type of license or certs to participate. The Academy operates the same hours as the store. I'll report back on how tonights event went back soon. Address: 16861 Kenyon Avenue, Lakeville, MN 55044 Phone: (952) 435-3805 Hours: Mon-Sat 9am–9pm Sun 10am–6pm
There can be only two possibilities.... A. Highly secretive election B. Friends in high places But I won't deny nor confirm either one or all the above. Ok inactuality it was when I hooked up with your sister.
I'm always looking for learning opportunities and tonight was a gentle reminder why it's so important to be great teacher. I am often on the giving end of the table and I understand this all to well. But i guess some just don't quite get it. I was not impressed with our instructor tonight. He wasn't very helpful nor fun to work with. And the worst part was he confused the heck out of me regarding Mn CC laws and home defense. Basically everything he said would defeat the point of having their program.
All kidding aside, kudos to you for going out and taking some classes. Anyone can buy a gun, hardly anyone learns how to really use it. Instructors come in all different sorts, once you find a good one that you like stick with them. They could save your life one day.
I'll tell you this, I'm going to start looking for a lawyer and posting some of these questions we had generated from last nights experience. Other then that the rest of the night was a lot of fun. My wife got to see just how fast I could flick my booger finger at the screen. I told her it took me many years of practice to get to this speed lol.
We did the 180 & 300 degree simulator. 180 is great for sharpening your accuracy. 300 is for situational awareness; shoot/no shoot.
You can just call there or go on-line and set up a time to run the simulator or the live range. They even have a spot to hold your conceal and carry gun while you "play". I did it when it first opened. I would like to see more gun choices but understand why they only have the beretta and glock (lots of PD use it). They get old if you do the whole hour. Do they have any new scenario's? I remember the multiple door one, the parking ramp one, the convenience store one off the top of my head.
