I am heading down to the cities this weekend and am going to be looking for some new/last years irons. I can look online at a bunch of different clubs, but where would you recomend? I think I am going to go the golf dome that is down there. So, in relation to that would be nice.

Anyways, for the golfers on here, where would recomend getting some new stuff?

    Thanks

clevelands are nice..i picked up a new set 2 years ago. beginning of last summer picked up a big bertha 460 and i LOVE it.

I've had my Mizuno T-Zoid Pro II's for a long time now, and they've been awesome! They were the first of the their kind to become more of a blade as the loft got lower (3 iron and alot of give --> pw is basically a blade).

I have a set of Tommy Armour irons and some assorted woods and a Wilson red-zone putter for sale if you are interested. They are all in a nice Calloway bag.

Well, do you have an idea of what you want? I like to form my own opinions on clubs rather than listen to what some of the employees at Golf Galaxy have to say about them. I usually end up buying my clubs there though!

It's kind of like Best Buy...take what the employees say worth a grain of salt, but you'll most likely buying whatever you decide on there :)

Right, I have some 4year old (dci's i want to say) titelist irons. Last season my head off of the nine iron went flying off into the woods and I figured I would just wait untill this year to find some new Irons. I have been looking at the apex ben hogans. Or something similar to that. I am looking to obviously demo some clubs (dont know how you could buy clubs without hitting em, yet some people do!?). Which is why i am wondering where there is to shop. I will also be over at MOA for part of the weekend. (any shops inside there or near?)

These are older clubs. Not beat to hell or anything, but they are used and not the newest things ever. I'll drag them out of the attic and take some pics tonight if I can get in there.

Buy your stuff at nevada bobs, golf galaxy, or second swing. they all have good used stuff for great prices! im a GOLF addict. im making a career out of golf in a way.

id sugest nevada bobs because they are VERY cool there. and ive gotten really good deals through them. second swing is where you get the best deals though.

Yeah, I like our bobs up here... Really interested in the Ben Hogans. Anyone ever hit the steel shaft as apposed to the stiff graphite? On this or a similar club? I see the apex come in either steel or two different graphites...

Golf USA in Eden Prairie is usually pretty fair on pricing, at least he is always half of Golf Galaxy. Also, I got a pretty nice deal on a lightly used set of clubs off www.holen1golf.com . Otherwise 2nd swing is always a good place for cheep clubs.

    +1

Graphite shafts add snap to weaker swings. You don't want that if you are a male under 50. It can make your more powerful swings end up erratic. If you can harness a graphite shaft, you might be ok, but odds are you'll be more accurate with a steel shaft club.

yeah i have a 103mph swing plus i have graphite shafts and i hate it!!!!!

i cant really put anything into my swing because my club head will come over late because of the snap effect. so i suggest getting steal unless your swing speed is slower than average or you are still learning and need to develop your swing.

I'd still recommend steel for new golfers. You learn better wrist motion and swing motion when the club doesn't snap about during the swing. It is hard to correct problems in your swing when you use a graphite club with a powerful swing. If you are learning to play or are a seasoned golfer under 50, I suggest using steel shaft clubs. Graphite adds too many dynamics to your swing, and if you don't have your swing perfected, graphite will simply amplify your shortcomings and make you hate the game.

BTW, I hate golf, so don't ask me to help you with your swing or come golf with you...I'll likely regress to cursing and being a beligerent drunk by the 13th tee. I've been thrown off of more courses than you've probably played on.

    I love my stiff shafts...

Seriously though, I do play stiff steel shafts, and would never get graphite unless my head speed was under 60.

Golf Smith will treat you right, even better if you can find a set, then go online and see if you can find them cheaper...

Last I was up at Golf Galaxy in February, the used clubs were marked down 50%. I got a one season used 3wood - normally $230 new, for 50 bucks. If you're looking for a deal, check those out. there's, what, 5 GG's around the cities?

One place I've been meaning to check out is Totally Driven in Oakdale. Look up there website.

I like second swing for individual clubs as you can most likely find one in great condition. For a set of irons, it's a little harder because there is always usually one club that has a defect in the set :(

Didn't we talk about this last year? didn't get very far...

I just re-gripped my irons this weekend with Golfpride New Decades - first time re-gripping went pretty well. Looking forward to using these. Built them up with 3 layers of tape (I have long hands/fingers).

Also looking at an aftermarket shaft for my driver, and a simple GPS unit - iGolf Neo.

Hey, I made it out about a dozen times with mnsubaru folks last season. It's just really tough to coordinate... and then you realize the person's schedule you worked around is a hand raiser

There was one in Rosedale Commons. Just North of the Rosedale mall... it was in the little strip mall where Wells Fargo, ocb, etc is.

I think it moved tho. There's a new one (tiny location I haven't been to yet) on Hennepin and 27thish. It's just a few blocks West of Larpenteur and 280 (where Larpenteur turns into Hennepin).

If you're in that area again, there's a golf galaxy (Just West of Rosedale off County B2? and Cleveland), golfsmith (next to the circuit city just south of 36 and Fairview), and Nevada Bob's (County C and Snelling in the strip mall next to the Cingular store and tires plus and such) all within a mile or 2 Rosedale mall.

    EDIT: yeah, what mrmcmonkey said

I did hit up the galaxy and smith (even stopped by "d i c k s") I like how there is alot more golf oriented stores down there then what we have up in Duluth.

I bought shoes from golf smith and they broke ( I lost a spike) after walking on them for 2 min at the golf dome near maple wood. Went back and they where closed by 6 on a saturday. I think golf smith owes me a spike!!! Not worth the commute again for a .50 cent item, but come on...
