I'm getting my first manuel car and it will be a 2011 or 2012 WRX. I was wondering after researching on the web there's so many people saying not to use mobil 1 etc. I heard people say use castrol Edge 5w-30 or Rotella T6 5w-30. Are these ok and no I'm not going to mod my car or beat it up just a simple maybe air intake and exhaust change but other than that nothing else since it's going to be my daily driver and want it to last me.

I have used Rotella T6 5w-30 in all my turbo Subarus based on the oil reports from Blackstone Labs. Avoid Mobile 1.

Thanks for the information. Too many fan boys/girls on other brand and expensive brand oil. I'll stick with the oem oil filter and rotella T6 5w-30.

I heard recently that Shell changed their formula? I don't know if there's any truth behind that though

I was using Mobile1 in my first wrx and the Blackstone report showed brass in the oil. One oil change later after the switch the brass was gone. Change your oil and do the Standard Oil Analysis. Then every couple changes do it if you want to know what is going on.

    T6 is 5w40, yo.

This is what I usually use, but will go with an OEM filter if it's cheaper.

Blue OEM filters = FRAM garbage
Black OEM filters are the good ones, but discontinued and difficult to find.
WIX or Purolator is what I've always run.

Where do you guys buy all your oil and filters? I'm currently running STP and a K&N filter.

I get oil at Walmart because it's usually the cheapest. (T6).

Get Bosch premium filters at Menards because for some reason the Subaru fitment ones are always on red tag, unadvertised sale. Not sure why, but I'll take it.

Yikes, at least my last 3 filters were Purolater Ones. Thanks for the heads up, Joe.

Last time I bought T6, I paid $59.91 before tax for a 3-gallon box from Home Depot. Walmart is another good option - they have it for right around the same price. I pickup the Purolator PureONE filter from Advance Auto. There's always a discount code floating around online. I used the discount code and picked it up in-store for $7.27 about 3 weeks ago.
