So, I've got a pretty decent home box hooked to my TV. So far it's primary purpose is watching Top Gear in WinMC and general surfing from the couch, but I've been itchin for a decent racer. I've already got a BD player with streaming netflix and pandora, so I'm having a hard time swallowing the idea of buying a PS3 or 360 for the sake of one, maybe two games.

Recommendations for a decent racing game for PC?

    Because I'll get asked...
    QX6850 Core2 Extreme quad 3.0
    4gb OCZ Reaper@1066
ATI HD3650 1gb - Far and away the weakest link in the machine.

If you've got a wheel/pedals, try out Live for Speed. It won't push your rig, and isn't much of a looker, but it is the most realistic sim out there, by FAR.

I've heard GTR2 and Toca Race Driver were good. Never played them really though.

I play Test Drive Unlimited.... the online multiplayer is extremely fun.... you can cruise with up to 7 others and go drifting in the mountains, race around a track, or go all out on the street roads. Its a great social game, lots of players have mic's.

I've been playing GTR-Evolution (part of Race07) and Richard Burns Rally. If you pick up Race07 or GTR-Evolution let me know because multiplayer would be fun. The games I've heard are great but never played are Live for Speed (as stated above), RFactor (mostly for the mods), and iRacing (multiplayer is crazy).

I can't believe you are still playing this game. I mean, I have played Silent Hill 3 about 30 times (in my defense, to get a 10 star ranking) .. how many times have you played all of the courses in this game?

At least 300-500. I've installed it on a different operating system a few times so the season always has to be redone to open up all the tracks. But for the most part I don't listen to pace notes anymore, I pretty much have all 30-40 memorized :)

While old you can't go wrong with Colin McRae Rally 2005 or 2004. About 100x more realistic than that stupid Dirt game... Yes i can stop from 100 on gravel in 20 ft...

TrackMania Nations is more of an arcade game than racing game (and it's not that new), but there's a free version you can download that's good for an hour or two of fun, more if you play around with the track editor.
