First off....the FrankenWagon was swapped back to stockish (still EJ22, and still 5MT and 4WD swapped. but 4-lug, drum brakes in the back, etc.) in the last month or so. and last monday, went to it's new home. so a little photo tribute to it: Goodbye old friend about a month ago, an '88 XT6 popped up on CL in Crystal. Thanks to Boomer for sending me the link shortly after that. I told the guy I was making arrangements to come get it the following sunday (2 weeks ago, or so). I had my dad call on Thursday to try to go look at it in person.....only to find out the guy had just sold it. He told me he'd give my phone number to the kid who bought it for the $800 being asked. original ad listed it as having a clunk in the transmission, and needed a fuel pump. kid bought it, replaced fuel pump and a number of rusted out fuel lines, drained/refilled gas tank, and new battery. went for a test drive, and a brake line burst....and the transmission was worse than he thought. so last sunday he called me. so, yesterday we drove out to his place near Menomonie, WI, poked around, and bought it for $740. Last night, I pulled some brake lines of similar lengths, and identical fittings from my parts wagon, and replaced the bad section. Today I got plates/tabs, washed it at work, and took a picture: It has most of a rare Kaminari body kit on it. looks like at some point, it hit a snowbank or something relatively soft. as the fog light on one side is missing, the headlight cover on that same side is black, and the fiberglass kaminari front lip is missing. But no signs of structural damage. Here's what a fully-kitted car looks like: 2nd gear synchro's are pretty much shot. but it doesn't make any noises in other gears. So I'm going to put some fresh fluid in it, and try to drive it for the week until the 4runner is ready for some daily driving duty. then I'll pull this trans and drop some impreza internals into it (Thanks Ryan!!). Also, while I was working on my wagon, I borrowed my dad's '94 LGT. I bought this car a few years ago on ebay for $350. it had some front end damage, was bought by a salvage yard, and shortly after that, the yard flooded. so it needed some front end parts, and a new interior. We figured it would be the perfect engine donor for the FrankenWagon. When it arrived, we realized it was much nicer than the FWD '92 legacy sedan my dad was currently driving (which had been my mom's DD for many many years). so we decided to part out the sedan instead. You may notice, it has the raised roof like a BG outback. These are pretty rare, and only available in '94. the '94 GTs got all the luxury options, power everything, CD player, cruise, etc. And the fact that this is a 5MT version makes it doubly rare. with the blue fenders from the sedan, and a green u-pull bumper (bumper on the sedan was crunched as well...), and a whole new interior, and a borrowed roof rack (Thanks again!!), ready to go camping: since then, it has received BG Outback suspension, t-leg front brakes (thanks boomer!), a t-leg hood, WRX wheels, receiver hitch, and BG Outback roof crossbars (which had to be shortened a bit).
Whoa, I thought for a bit there you were stepping outta the sube world! Glad to see your stick in out Ill keep my eyes open around town! Looks like a deal for what you paid!
Damn, no ****. Start practicing up on your fiberglass skills so you can make a new front lip/cover dealie.
forgot to mention. there's a guy in sheboygan who is in the process of acquiring molds to make reproduction kits. once the weather warms up again in the spring, he will be making them. so I'll definitely be getting one then.
Chux the new XT looks sick! I really like the color. From this side it looks like there is very little if any rust damage, which is awesome. I cannot wait to see it with some different wheels and tint. Congrats!
Nice looking car Chux. Thats not the one I was telling you about. Looks like you got a good deal. john
