on university ave and right in front of wendys i got pulled over. asked me about my no axle back but i thought in MN we dont have a muffler requirement. i wasnt even being loud. like 1500 rpms.... he didnt even check my db level so idk why he gave me the ticket. considering all of the crazy loud muscle cars with straight pipes that dont get pulled over... what should i do? im getting my nurspec put on in the next week or so i think. any legal advise?
https://www.revisor.leg.state.mn.us/bin/getpub.php?pubtype=STAT_CHAP_SEC&year=2007§ion=169.69 All states have a law of some form, at the very minimum the state law must abide by federal laws or be more strict.
i remember you driving by my work once, cuz i posted a spotted thing on here, your car was damn loud, i heard it from like a couple blocks away. i'd say you might have a leg to stand on if he didn't test it, but what if they do...is it legal? still sucks though, especially on university..when all the other loud muscle cars are out. cops are hating on the import stuff it sounds like
It is not just imports, I know many muscle car guys, 4x4 guys who have gotten tickets for loud exhaust. I also know many motorcycle riders who have gotten tickets for loud pipes, Harleys/metric cruisers/sport bikes. It is not just one group. Like many of those guys who have gotten tickets before have said, "you know when your exhaust is excessive. It is not a matter of if you get a ticket. It is a matter of when." It sounds like you know yours was loud/excessive/may have been pushing the limits of being acceptable.
I got pulled over by a state trooper the other week, he said it can't have any crackles or pops and said db didn't really matter. Apparently the only legal rice crispy guy is SNAP!
Did you ask him to show you the code? Seems to be a HUGE gray area. When do rublez become crax and popz?
I am wondering why people cry about this when they dont have a muffler on their car.... think about it.. no muffler = loud... kinda like crying if you get a ticket for speeding.. 5mph-20mph is still over... bald tires... are bald tires... as has been said.. gotta pay to play... and just because those other v8s and bikes etc are running around, doesnt mean they havent been busted before....
Oh and for the record, glass packs do not do this. Infortenantly, it is true that imports are targeted more than domestics. However, it still doesn't mean you shouldn't get a ticket. It means they should get tickets as well. Very loud exhausts are annoying as hell for people who live nearby. Goddamn ****ing straight pipe harleys running down Hennepin make me want to kill.
no i knew it was gonna happen at some point im just suprised it was at university. im not really that upset execpt for the fact that i think it counts as a moving violation from what ive herd. i only posted because i wanted to know if there was anything i could do to make things easier. if i get my exhaust fixed and prove it... cant i get it dropped? he never said it was a fix it ticket
Your kidding, right?? You can't be serious with that statement. If you will get in trouble anywhere, it will be Uni. I have seen cops sit behind lifted trucks at the stoplight, wait till the light turns green, pull them over, get out, and measure the bumper height. If you are doing anything stupid, you will get busted on Uni. I know tons of people who drove around with loud exhausts, window tint, neons (undercar lights from back in the day), you name it, and never got in any trouble until they went to Uni. The cops write out tickets there every weekend because it is like shooting fish in a barrel. Sooner or later someone will do something stupid and they have a easy ticket. Russ
Mmmm yes i just got hassled about my exhaust in Mound a week ago. I asked the officer what the statute was. He said my ears say its too loud. Im like so its an officers discretion? Then he threatened me "look if your not gonna fix it ill just write you a ticket now". So asked him to write down the statue # and he gets all salty and writes it down and throws the fix-it back at me and storms off. Duche... Anyways i just got a stock axle back and im gonna go get it oked quick and then back to the rubles. Just something ive accepted as a potential issue. How much is your ticket for?
Ok, heres what ya do. I've gotten pulled over twice over the last year and both times cops have been douches about every lil thing they can be douches about. If you drive a car that looks like it might be even a lil bit like its from FaF you're going to be targeted no matter what. What you have to do is just accept that fact and deal with it, or go buy a Dodge Charger. Since we all are keeping our cars. Just clean them up some. Get rid the the license plate covers. Keep sh!t off your dashes. Keep your air fresheners and parking permits off your rear view mirror. Keep your car quite on city streets. If you get pulled over, dont smart off, cops will talk down to you and treat u sometimes like a retarded child. They'll talk really loud to you and try to and try to make you snap so that they have more of an excuse to be even bigger douches. When they give you a ticket for Exhaust and they dont measure it, Fight it! I've gone in twice now and both time get them dropped with just paying a $90 fee. Which is 100% better then having on your record "ticketed for loud exhaust". Cause if you have that crap on your record, when a cop is tailing you and look up your license, they'll actually see that and use that against you! Side note, if you're Drivers License address isnt current. NEVER say you've lived at your new place for over a month cause thats a ticket too! Even if you have, always say when asked if this is your current address... "No, I just moved 3 weeks ago" and you're all set. Also, im not talking about all cops, just the douches. There are plenty of nice cops out there. We normally just dont see them cause they never pull us over. If like any job. Go to Burger King. You'll meet nice people and douches there also. Only difference is a douch cop will mess with you're head and wallet a lot more.
the taking the keys out of the ignition putting them on the dash and rolling down all your windows thing WORKS, i havent ever gotten a ticket in my subaru, only pulled over and yelled at.
The problem is there is no statute that dictates a required scientific measurement of loudness. As posted above, 169.69 is the only law on exhausts in MN and its obviously very vague. Cops then can use their discretion to say "its too loud" or its ok entirely upon how they perceive your car, your attitude towards them, and how much of a douche they want to be if they cant write you any other tickets.
Fix it ticket? Get a pop-in silencer for a temp. fix. Go show whoever that you have fixed the issue. Done and done, yes?
Interesting... Ill have to look into this. It doesnt make much sense that i can have any officer from any city approve my fix-it if each city has its own ordinance.
mound is never nice when it comes to exhaust, how i never got a ticket there in any vehicles ive ever owned still baffles me.
Depends on what they're citing you under. City noise laws are general. You'd be citied under the same reg for a loud party. And they're not fix it tickets (they're not reported to DPS either) otherwise, you're cited under MN ST 169.693 Pollution control regs: cars: https://www.revisor.leg.state.mn.us/rules/?id=7030.1060 motorcycles: https://www.revisor.leg.state.mn.us/rules/?id=7030.1050
My fix-it in mound was for 169.69, first box on the sheet "Loud Exhaust". And he said any officer could ok it.
You sure he didn't cite 169.693? Though an error like that can easily be revised in court, it is not a fatal error. If it is based on db, it should be cited under 169.693.
I asked him if i could have it tested when i went in. He took a tone with me and said "Mr. Anderson, its too loud, my ears are the test. If your not going to fix it ill just write you the ticket right now. Do you want me to write down the statute?" and i said yes, he just wrote 169.69 on it and threw it back at me.
im just guessing because NMDAYTIME got a ticket for amber headlights and that was a moving violation. everyone posts the same retarded responce. yes i know its loud. i can fix that. all i wanted to know is if i can have it dropped if i put my axle back on before i have to pay it.... any one with anything usefull to add please help me out. otherwise everyone with the "omg are you serious, you have a loud car deal with it" resopnce go sit on one because i completely understand that my car is really loud. i just want to try and find a way to fight it if i can. thanks for the help to anyone who is lending it
Stuff like tint and exhaust are equipment violations not moving violations. Make a video or take pictures of you changing out your exhaust and show them to the prosecutor and most of the time they will just dismiss it on the spot with no charge. I doubt someone will actually come out and check it but don't change it back until the ticket is for sure dismissed.
They didn't give you a violation, they just said go back to your trailer and die!!! Nobody cares about you, you fast and furious maggot!
they love their exhaust tickets in mound. I've had two. Its officer discretion, and in order to have it checked out when you "fix" it, it must be the same officer. I got mad and retorted "well you'd think every officers discretion would be as good as the next" to one of the officers at the mound pd. He actually said, "valid point man, its dumb, but its how its set up." Just get a muffler put on or borrow a factory axleback, get it checked off, and then do what you gotta.
if only it were that easy. i have a 3in midpipe. and my blitz axle back is tappered for a stock midpipe.... so i need to have like 2-3in of the axle back cut off and have a new 3in flance and pipe put on so it will mount to my 3in flange on my midpipe. ive checked at a couple places for a flange but no one has what i need. its kinda lame. otherwise id already have the axle back on.
