Damn cops in Andover, they pulled me over for not having my front license plate mounted!! The thing that jerks me about the whole thig is the cop went completly out of his way to pull me over and give me a ticket! He crossed the intersection going away from me, then went to the next stop light made a u turn and pulled over on the sholder in front of me and waited for me to pass him!!! what an ass. im sure glad our tax paying dollars are going to a holes like this who have nothing better to do.

thanks for letting me vent, i really dont have a problem with cops but this just jerks my chain.

Think i should fight it and go to court?

    Man, that sucks. :(

I voted "yes" only because by not fighting, you're basically pleading guilty. Best case scenerio, you can go and they'll reduce or drop the charges. Worse case, you're out a little bit of your time.

Don't expect anything great though. Yes, what you did was fairly trivial in nature, but you probably were driving around knowing that you were supposed to have a front plate on. It's hard to complain when you do something you know is wrong and someone calls you on it. :?

    Just my $0.02.

+1 I have a flawless driving record for that reason. Always go to court even if you are guilty. All they want is your money, they don't care about giving you a ticket. Just make sure you have a front plate when you go to court so you can tell the prosecuter and/or judge that you got it fixed.

yeah...always fight. If you do go to court just bring in a picture with the date on it somewhere to show that it was fixed and it was an accident. They'll prolly drop it and make you pay court fees

Still it sucks, and yeah fight it.

always go to court, just remember you have 21 days to take action or youl get a warrant, but try and wait until like day 19 to get a court date, the longer you drag it out the more likely the cop wont want to or wont be able to make it to your court date

Fight what? You admited your guilt. Am I the only one here advocating taking responsibility for your actions and paying the fine?

Cliff Notes: Have your own opinion, don't let ANYONE tell you what to think. Only yourself.

Pfft, pay the man and run like a little sissy? Pay for what? Laws that I don't personally like or see how it does any good, yeah right! You've got to fight for what's right, not go along with what the government tells you to do. If Americans went along with the British there would be no America. They call America land of the free, just think of what it COULD be known for after the next revolution.

I partially agree with you. Yes it sucks we have to have front plates but I agree that the law is the law and if you break the law you should be held accountable. But why rollover and take a ticket AND pay a fine(to the court and auto insurance premiums) when you can go to court and possibly pay only the fine? We have the right as citizens to throw ourselves to the mercy of the court(judge or prosecutor in this case) and it looks good when you come in with something that proves at least you got it fixed so your intentions are good(also helps to have a clean record).

Not to mention if you have the vacation time its a great excuse to take the day off regardless of outcome with the ticket :)

fight it!!! the chances of it getting reduce is good. if it's a fix it ticket, i wouldnt really care too much but when it might affect my driving that's when you gotta give it all you got. Majority of the time it will get reduce or thrown out. and it helps to walk in with a clean record too!

Yeah, he is guilty. What I was getting at is that by signing your ticket and mailing your check in, you lose your right to show up and maybe get a lesser fine and/or charge against you. Guilty or not, the courts seem to be pretty willing to deal with you if you show up. At least for me, everytime that I've gone into the courthouse for a ticket, they've always cut me some slack on the fine/charges. If you have the time, you might as well go and see if they'll give you a deal. It's no worse than mailing your check in.

If you don't like it talk to your rep about it. They gave me some reasons I didn't even know about regarding this very issue. I think my rep was Tinglestad at the time, I emailed her and she got me in touch with someone who is actually part of the comittee that handles the traffic laws. He said the reason the front plate law is still in effect is for the many cases in which it has helped find someone who committed a hit and run. Did you know that in most cases of damage bad enough to warrant police involvement the force of the hit is often enough to knock loose the front plate from its mount? The person fleeing is usually not going to stop and pick up their license plate, if they even know it got knocked off, they're just going to take off. Did you also know that the paint on the letters of our plates is made to come off in such an event? I actually had the plate number of a guy who rear-ended me in a snowstorm tattooed to the back bumper of my DSM (he didn't take off though). Yeah the reasons may seem insignificant, but when you look at the little good it does it outweighs most of the reasons I can think of not to have one on the front. Just think if that guy had run after hitting me, my insurance company could have nailed his butt to a wall with the plate mark left behind, and I'm sure the police would have had an interest in that as well.

Leave the front plate on, it's not worth getting ticketed over, or if it is worth getting ticketed over don't act surprised that some cop goes out of his way to nail you for it. Take it off when you go to the track or the show, leave it on when driving. Do I think it was silly for the cop to go so far as that to ticket you? Yeah, a little, but at the same time it's interesting to see how they enforce all laws, not just the easy ones like speeding. My vote is pay and move on. I went through 4-5 tint tickets at $100+ each in under 2 years with my old car. I chose not to remove the tint that was there when I bought it so I knew what I was doing was against the law and I could be ticketed for it. Window tint doesn't really hurt anyone, and all of those were the only reason the officer was pulling me over, nothing else. That's the way it works, I don't feel I'm above the law in any form.

Well atleast going to court I can pretty much assure you the cut the fine in half either way, that would be enough reason to go in my book.

well, im still thinking about it, am really enjoying everyones thoughts on this. This wont affect my insurance (atleast i dont think it will, somone correct me if im wrong) I think in the end i might just pay it... ive been down the court road before in anoka county, and usually the outcomes are not worth the time invested. Keep the conversation going though.
