I can't think of a tool in my garage that can remove steel faster than a cutoff wheel on my 4-1/2" grinder. I was building a new 3" exhaust for my project car and trimming my rear bumper so the exhaust would fit in a half circle in the bumper and be tucked up high when whoa! felt a tug on my finger... I didn't even want to look fearing the worst. If it wasn't for my fingernail (which was ground through fast!) it would have went to the bone or worse. But luckily only went through my finger nail and about 1/8" deep into my meat. I am careful when i'm in the garage. I wear safety glasses etc. I guess I just got careless for a few seconds and it almost cost me a finger. RESPECT THOSE TOOLS11!!! I will get some pics of the exhaust soon too. Think mandrel bends, V-bands, and flat black stove paint!
gotta watch out for fingers when using bench grinders too. Nothing like sharpening a tool during shop in highschool and having your finger dragged into it. I got lucky and didnt loose my fingernail!
Gotta be careful with any tool. When I was working as a LoVo electrician for a while, I got a call from my boss over the Nextel one day, telling me he didn't think he'd get through the houses he had planned on that day, so I might have to add one or two to my list for the next day. He'd managed to cut off the end of his finger while trimming Cat5e cables to length, using just a plain old basic wire stripper. He was moving quickly, and not paying attention to where the tool was relative to his hand and *snip* Thing is, he wrapped his hand in electrical tape and kept working, just was worried he wouldn't be able to move as fast... Knew another guy who lost an entire finger when the generator he was working on (bug mother of a generator) turned over and caught his hand in the flywheel ring gear. I've shot myself with a framing nailer. My hand was just far enough away that it was only the kinetic energy of the nail, and not the piston still driving it, and I was wearing heavy leather gloves, and I still ended up with a nasty welt from it. And I can't count the number of times I've been that close to really hurting myself. It happens in a blink of an eye (which reminds me of another story, my brother in law is an eye surgeon...) that one instant you're not paying attention...
No finger picture sorry! After dragging the exhaust around my 4th run at MOWOG 1. I decided to do my exhaust right. I think it turned out great! Also replaced my noisy springs and clanging shocks with some adjustable Konis. MOWOG3 is gonna be dope. And I have all my fingers!
