Waiting on parts for my Yota before I can start re-assembly.....so, I started cleaning up the valve cover.....and then I realized I've got some red high-temp engine paint.....

    long story short:

I also painted the intake pipe.....thinking of doing the timing chain cover

Is this for the turbo 4 runner? I've got to see that thing some time.

    yep

    it's a 22RTE.

I also did the intake tube (big ol' steel pipe from the turbo over to the throttle body....it was rusty, so I cleaned it up, and had to do something to prevent further rustage.)

and no, no paint for the wagon, if I had painted it, it wouldn't have been posted in OT.

it's plasti-kote brand Fast Dry Engine Enamel, C206 Ford Red from Wal-Mart. says it resists heat to 500*F.

    and here's the truck:

hope to have it rear locked and on 35s by the end of the summer....but that depends on how much money I "waste" on the subaru before then :hsugh:

waiting for new timing chain guides before final engine reassembly.

I was using Plasti-Kote non-fast dry high-temp black for the letters at first (good to 1500*F!!). but got this crappy finish. so I sanded it smooth, and finished it with a coat of regular Rustoleum satin black. That's good to 200*F, and I figure that little area in the middle of the valve cover, with at least a half a dozen layers of high-temp paint under it, won't get too far over that, if at all....

oh yea, I went up to the off-road park with my uncle in his Land Rover this afternoon.....Ran into a group of first gen 4runners. all on ~38" Super Swampers, just dominating the rock gorge....I was tempted to put my Subaru up for sale to get the toyota on the trails....looked sooo sweet!

That thing is super clean for an 80's yota. It's obviously not from around here. I think I heard where it was from while working on dans car, but don't remeber. I know where you can get a set of D60's and some 38.5x15 boggers :)

Before chuxorz, i'd never heard of a turbo 4runner. And I've always loved yotas. More power to him, and the baddazz suv

yep, not from around here. it's been in Colorado for the last 10 years or so. I guess the turbo REALLY helps at high altitude.

the long version of the story (really funny): The guy I bought it from salvages cars, he bought this 4runner in 1998 from an auction in the cities. It had been stolen, and then used in a hit and run robbery. 2 guys drove it through the front of a store, stole a bunch of stuff, and took off on foot. He replaced the hood, front fenders, grill headlights, radiator, and bumper. He also repainted it (why there aren't any cool '80s graphics on it). Instead of getting a stock bumper, he got the SmittyBuilt tube bumper (with rear bumper and nerf bars to match). Once it was fixed up, he sold it to his sister-in-law, who took it to CO.

Last spring she ran it out of oil. it started making horrible sounds. she pulled over. and since then, it's not been driven a single mile. I've almost got the engine stuff take care of. then I've got to tinker with the brakes a bit. and I'll be on the trails in no time.

and I'd never heard of the turbo versions either until this came up for sale. I guess 4% of the 4Runners in '87 (only year the turbo was available) were turbo. and even less of the trucks. in '88 they were replaced with the V6.

the best part is how cute the CT-20 turbo is! it's this tiny little thing. which is why peak torque is 170 ft-lbs @ 2800 rpm.

no need for D60s. the Toyota 8" axles are good for at least 40" tires.
