Its an 84, 134K 4 speed, 2.5 4 cyl. Runs like a top, drives just as well, and its obviously in pretty damn good shape, and I only payed $700
Plans will be some kind of GM v6. Depending on what I can get my hands on cheapest and easiest. Even a regular 3800 seriesII would grip N dip pretty well, and they came in just about everything.
having driven every gm v-6 ever built i would say the 3.1L is the fastest most eager to rev of the bunch. my old roommate had a 92' or so buick skylark 2door that would beat my 04' stock wrx. and a chica i dated had a surprisingly quick lumina euro sport with the 3.1.
yes we did see this!! I had an 84 2M4 as well, the thing was a blast to drive! it will never rust because all the body pieces are made of plastic. but the car handled like a dream.... congrats and have fun with it!
Erik, weren't you talking about wanting to do a 502 Caddy swap into something? I'm not saying, I'm just saying...
The most rev happy GM v6 hands down is the 3.4 DOHC, and it made the most horse out of all the 60* v6s (215) NOT 3.4 the pushrod motor. The 3.1 is definatly torquey down low, but it only made 165hp.
I could just do it the AWDL way and try to blow up the old iron duke with a turbo....That would be cheaper.
The 3.4 pushrod is a good motor, too. Tq, and they are all over the place. Plus, tons in minivans that haven't been beaten to ****. Too many people do the 3.4 TDC in Fieroland.
i thought the 3.1 pulled all the way through? maybe it was a different one but like i said it was faster than a mint condition 04' wrx (only 14,000 miles and no mods) and i almost forgot the lumina Z34! that was definitely the performance V6. until the 3800 II supercharged i think gm imported turbo 4's didnt they? im thinking the old opel manta rally car and sprinter turbo. or my favorite the vauxhall astra gte/ opal kadett GSi from the mid 80's.
do a 3800 supercharged one. box and I know a guy that has a fiero with one in it. the thing hauls the mail for sure!
Those are an example of GM's management mismanagement. Could have been so much much more. Takes the guy with a wrench to fix what a MBA broke.
The MBA could be fixed with a 3/4" torque wrench. GM and Ford were scared to have a smaller car outperform their bread and butter cars. Why do you think Ford would never bring over a Focus RS? Notice how long the Probe GTS lasted.
That is a nice looking Fiero. +1 on the 3800 either regular or the s/c. You would probably good with a 3.4 swap too. I had a 1991 Chevrolet Lumina Z34 and that was one of my favorite cars ever. The only thing is this car and the Z34 had some radiator and heating problems.
This car didn't have overheating problems, people just thought they did because the thermostat doesn't open until 220-230 degrees. Yes, its designed to open that hot. Its a shame the 89 Fiero concept killed the Fiero for good. 3.4L DOHC with a turbo. Yeah, smoked the Corvette in everything. Literally everything. That put the axe to it. haha
I have to revise my statement - the fans kick on at 220, the thermostat is 192. If you don't want it to get so hot for some reason, turn on the A/C. That will leave the fan on all the time.
