I really enjoy watching drivers like Randy Prost commentate. Looking forward to my own experience at Leguna Seca 2013. Enjoy!
Probably one of the best Driver Car search shows I've seen yet. They don't throw all these boring facts like the old Motortrend use to do, it's actually fun to watch and they give you useful practical information everyone can apply. But most importantly what makes a drivers car. I can actually enjoy watching shows like this again. The term "Energy exceeds Knowledge" comes to my mind.
Go on... Seriously, I'm curious. I'm all for turning a hobby into a career. Excellent vids. I really did enjoy them discussing things like car dynamics, inspiring confidence, the car's communication with the driver. I think a lot of people ignore or simply are not aware of the basic fundamentals that really make a car extremely enjoyable to drive and not just for daily but also for sport. For example, my old 02 Forester was made into an insanely easy to drive sports car. I could almost drive that thing fast mindlessly simply because it does nothing wrong. I have an 04 FXT that feels like a turd in comparison, significantly less composed, significantly less communicative, significantly less inspiring, realistically slower by probably about 30% around a corner, and just does a lot of things poorly. At the same time this is a car that's been modded, has suspension changes, sways, etc, but all the key parts aren't there...like bushings. The suspension isn't set up well. It isn't balanced, and the alignment isn't there. The brakes are crap despite me literally upgrading from 2-pot/1-pot to Brembos (pads are insanely important). There's a ton less pad knock back, but the pad is junk. Plus there's no feel due to the soft bushings. Yet, it's all just small things, and these small things make for incredibly different driving experiences. When people are modding their cars, putting a sizable amount of money in, and attempting to make something that they will really enjoy, it's crazy how poorly people do it. Then again, not everyone as the same interests and desires from a car. Many don't have the knowledge nor willingness to learn (from experimentation or from others). I know I've certainly learned a ton modding over the last few years.
Well most people are enthusiast with tons of enthusiasm. They do what they can to get in and fit it. At this stage it's more of a community thing. Then later they venture into the power phase, where power is never enough and they stay there. A few will venture into HPD where they can learn more about their car and how they're driving. The logic isn't implanted till much later when you've had time to define your priorities. There's no wrong way to do it when you're just looking to enjoy it. But know that there are experts on board willing to help out and get you there. A drivers car is fun because it's dynamic and you can park it in almost every category in your life that you're involved with. And if you're looking for opportunities there's a lot of local car clubs looking for highly skilled drivers but more importantly amazing instructors who can help a student by not overwhelming them. If this is you or you know someone interested join a local car club pay your dues and prove your worth. Granted getting into the professional scene isn't quite as easy as it use to be anymore but there's been some lucky individuals. Remember a Balanced Car is a happy car.
