GrimmSpeed introduces the Catless Downpipe for Subarus. GrimmSpeed’s Catless Bellmouth Downpipe is one of the first modifications that should be done on your car! The OEM downpipe contains two very restrictive catalytic converters, killing the power potential of your car. Our downpipe is a full 3” CNC mandrel bent design with a wax-casted bellmouth. Using a unique wax-casting design for our bellmouth, it has allowed us to create a very smooth bellmouth that allows for optimal flow. The outlet of the downpipe has a standard 3” 2-Bolt flange that will mate up with most aftermarket cat-backs on the market. In typical GrimmSpeed fashion, all pieces of the downpipe are made from 304 stainless steel; flex, bellmouth, piping, even the flanges! Stainless steel flanges are very rare, most competitors try to save money by going with a polished mild-steel flange, not us! By using a downpipe that is catless, it allows you to fully maximize your exhaust flow which will increase the ability of your car to produce huge horsepower and torque gains. Turbo power, response, and efficiency is greatly improved. Once you have added our downpipe to your vehicle, you must be retuned. Every downpipe has a second o2 Bung with cap for those who wish to monitor o2 levls. The secondary o2 Bung is located in the bellmouth for ease of installation. Having a secondary o2 Bung saves you time and money because you will not have to pay a shop to install one for you. If that wasn’t enough reason to go with the GrimmSpeed Downpipe, we have went one step further and added a flex-joint in the downpipe. Why do you need a flex section in the downpipe you ask? Adding a flex joint has two main functions; allows the pipe to expand/contract during heat cycling with out cracking welds and it makes installation much easier. All aftermarket cat-backs are a bit different in their fitment, the flex joint allows you to mate our downpipe to almost any aftermarket cat-back with complete ease. Replacing your factory catalytic converter sometimes causes a ‘cat converter efficiency’ check engine light. You can either use tuning to delete this CEL or you can use a mechanical fix. All GrimmSpeed exhaust products are intended for off-road use only. looks alot like the cobb unit, is this like the cross pipe and made overseas or is it fabed and welded in MN?
thanks! definitely not the same as the cobb unit. companies suppliers are their biggest secrets now arent they? did you purchase one of our crosspipes? actually yes i have. definitely may be an option in the future.
That 2nd bung is going to be worthless for egts since the established temp guidelines that everyone uses are all measured at the head. You'd be better off marketing it as a secondary bung that can be used for TEMPORARY wbo2 usage during tuning sessions. Have you thought about either moving the secondary bung or adding a 3rd bung down to a location for permanant mount wideband sensors?
it looks really good, And i'm being dead serious, If I wasnt done modding turbo subarus and i needed a DP...This one would definatly be on my list, congrats justin.
Awesome, its finally out!! GrimmSpeed has been working so hard on producing the perfect downpipe!!! And 1st hand experience says that they are made with the highest quality materials every time. You guys should have seen the testing we did to make sure its pefect!! Wish I had my STI still, I'd buy this baby in a heart beat!
 thats what i get for creating a product description at 1am. however i did ninja edit before tom posted about it.
Grimmspeed shareholder's meeting @ 3:15am, lolzzzz! Nice downpipe, btw. Are you going to offer these in a coated version as well?
absolutely. we havent figured out an exact price yet(probably around 100) which is why it isnt on the website yet.
Yeah, if you're redesigning again, this is what I would suggest. Something 12-24" back from the bellmouth.
And the bellmouth is not cast utilizing the standard sand casting methods, its cast using another quite smoother substrate for the molds!!
Oh and on another note, I don't beleive this was mentioned before but for all you JDM guys out there, I mean with Non-USDM swaps. The stock narrow band o2 sensor is located just in-back of the turbo and you can simply move the bolt to the lower hole and use your stock o2 sensor in the upper hole. Thats what I have done and it works great, has for the last couple years just fine.
I'm sure there are plenty of aftermarket cats out there already. That's one spendy part and the cost fluctuates so much. I wouldn't put one on if I were making them. Use a test pipe and tune for it.
This looks like a 1-piece downpipe. An aftermarket cat would have to be welded into this downpipe or the midpipe (if it'll even fit). Where does a "test-pipe" come into play? This downpipe already eliminates both post-turbo cats. Considering Grimmspeed's market spans well beyond MN, a catted version would be a marketable option. Anyway, nice looking piece. Is this the only wrx/sti downpipe with a flex joint on the market?
Turbulence? You see plenty of them on mid pipes much further "down the line" from the turbo. +1 on a cat.
I believe UR (Ultimate-Racing) makes one with a flex joint... At least I thought I read that somewhere.
Isn't UR for Unorthodox Racing? That is what is written on my Unorthodox Racing pulleys and the included stickers.
I think most people mean Ultimate-racing when they say "UR." They fabricate a number of parts including rotated turbo kits compared to Unorthodox who mainly do pulley's an oil caps and such.
