Hi All, I am working with L and E Fabrication LLC http://column.landefabrication.com to get us a group buy. They are willing to give us $150.00 off the listed price of $524.99 for Subaru applications and $724.99 for S13 & S14 if I can get a minimum of three people interested and the same would apply if we get more interest. The list of applications are listed below. I have recently drove a Subaru around a short track and a high speed track equiped with one of these and its great. Very easy to correct the car as it is also for over correcting for those of us drifters among us. The steering wheel has a heavier feel from column which is great for track driving. S13 & S14: Because this is a new market for them, they requested that those interested will have to provide their own columns or core and no core charge will be applied. And anyone outside of what’s currently available will be considered custom, but if we get enough interest for that model it may just well be another category on its own. I plan to have this up for about 3 weeks to a month to gain as much interest as possible and if more people are interest I'll keep working with them to keep the prices affordable. ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- -Want your car to be more fun to drive and handle better then you could have imagined? Our L and E Fabrications LLC Quick Steering Column may be for you. 3 turns lock to lock in a car that is raced is way too much throwing the wheel side to side trying to keep your Subaru under control and usually ends up in over correcting on dirt, snow, or ice racing. Our column can turn your Impreza into a 2 turn lock to lock though our 1.5 to 1 steering column. Meaning when you turn your steering wheel one full rotation it turns the steering column one and a half times. We have used the same column we are selling in our Subaru all of this rally season and helped us to our 1st Place Rally America Open Class win at Colorado Middle Cog 2 rally. I have also been using in my street Outback Sport with great success. This product was designed for off highway use only. Using in a track, auto-x and rally car makes the Subaru much more predictable and helps your reaction time out. In the rally car the car is much easier to throw around J-turns. Every Person I have had drive one of my columns has loved it. One feature I greatly enjoy about the column is the slightly heavier steering wheel feel. It makes the car much harder to overreact and I have found less kick back in the wheel from grooves and bumps on the road. Although the large rocks in rally may still cause a problem. Overall I have found this column to work awesome in every thing I have competed in my Impreza with. So we always keep this in mind when we are designing a column for the first time for a car. We would like to keep the Columns priced from $400.00 to $700 depending on labor and parts that are needed for each design. At this time only the Subaru Impreza & Forester columns prices are set and available for order on our website. If you are interested in another application please contact me for more info. I was just looking at a different company that does this as well. Only 2.4 turns lock-to-lock. MUCH more expensive though! It looked like it would be really sweet. Hmmm...
If you guys have read my review on mr. Grim's Green Machine on the short track at DCTC I am sure you will agree its a very nice piece to have. Especially if you have driven an Evo and have complained about their quicker ratio. I will be piloting Mt Fuji Industries wagon this weekend at a high speed track and will be happy to provide my review. My interest in this is to upgrade the column on the S14. If you think the Scooby could use a closer ratio you may want to check out the Nissan S14. Join the party, I'm sure Fuji would be happy to help install it for ya.
I'm not an average driver. Everyone I know that has this mod (4 personal acquaintances) loves it. I'm regretting not buying one last year when I had the cash...
The average driver who is considering this mod just needs to learn to steer with both hands much much slower. Those who are competitive will have to check with the rules in their form of motorsports, and those weekend track drivers well you get best of both worlds.
I wonder if they could do it with mine......$150 off would be sweet! but I don't think I could find the $$ for it anytime soon.
Yeah, damn. I don't foresee the funds for this happening very soon. But it is something I absolutely want for the wagon.
i would love this for rallyx but i get by ok now and I am severely lacking in the disposable income right now
This was one of the important modifications that I had to get. You know how much they LOVE the EVO's steering feel compared to the STi's. That's what makes you more comfortable at speed as well and feel more in control. Steering does have quite a bit of how confident you are and if you can handle it. I still haven't driven hard with this yet, just driving daily here and there. I like doing my 180's!!! This is a MUST HAVE if you do autoX because it helps a TON!!!!
I just got my Federal Stimulas check on Friday. I wonder if turning less will save gas? I read a good article by Brown aka UPS and how they are able to save some $$$ by starting with delievering to the farthest first and plan the route with as many right hand turns as possible. Anyway it won't make much difference on a track car, but perhaps we can cut down on eatting less because we are not using as much energy, that could be some saving there. LOL Okay bad humor but it was worth a try. I got some response from other forums.
Well here is my review regarding the quick steering ratio column after driving the Black Mamba at BIR and the Green Machine at DCTC. And I will be candid about this because after having driven two different cars on two different tracks low and high speeds. I do not recommend this product to anyone who is novice or intermidiate. As my experience has been that even with more experienced drivers than myself, they still don't understand the meaning of steering slower or know how to. While driving both of these cars I always kept in the back of my mind it was equiped with a close ratio steering column with heavier feel. This requires a firmer grip on the steering wheel and because of it drivers will tend to muscle the car around and will likely end up losing it from over correcting. It's very similar to driving a spec racer, a kart or no power steering and the fact that we were running much wider and sticker tires didn't help soften the feel. So though this was a good idea I don't expect the Groupbuy to get off the group as it may pose as a concern. Unless otherwise. "The BIGGER the RISK the HIGHER the GAIN."
yea, I'd definitely have to swap steering racks again (I already have an XT one which is a bit quicker than any EJ series rack.....). the combination of the quicker rack AND quicker column would be scary. someday though, once it's no longer my daily driver, and I've had many many many hours of seat time, I think it'll be a good investment.
more good things to spend money on... I really like this idea but the timing is a bit tricky. Maybe in 2-3 months?
I like the idea of this mod...I hate having to spin the wheel like a hampster to get into a parking spot!
