I believe the law states that it can only be in your car to transport it directly form one place to another (naming specifically home, range, gun shop). You cannot just leave it in there. I am unsure whether your age would be a factor. 21 is the minimum to purchase a hand gun, but it may be that possession is only limited to 18. Hopefully someone else knows the answer to this.

it should be in a case in the trunk to be on the safe side.

From what I can tell, as long as you're over 18 you can possess it, you just can't purchase one new. Without a MN Carry Permit, you must have the pistol in a case in the trunk of the car, unloaded and with ammo in a seperate container.

Your location idicates Iowa, if this is true you may have to do some careful reading. I don't wanna give legal advice as I don't feel qualified to do so but here are a few things I found during a quick search.
    Iowa- http://www.nraila.org/statelawpdfs/IASL.pdf

    Minnesota- http://www.nraila.org/statelawpdfs/MNSL.pdf

Iowa looks a bit more strict on the transfer of ownership and possesion of hanguns/ammo. like I said, please read it over carefully then add some pics to the gun thread:)

I'm still bummed out that WI can have suppressors but we can't in MN. We can have full auto, short barreled rifles and shotguns but no suppressors. Oh well, I'll just have to settle for the 10.5in barrel with a KAC Masterkey.

    C&R?

Edit: Nevermind, answered my own question.

I'll try to find the link again, from what I could tell we could have full auto, short barreled rifles and short barreled shotguns. I'm looking right now at doing the paperwork to convert my LMT MRP CQB into a SBR so I can take advantage of the quick change barrels. A 10.5in barrel with a Noveske KX3 would make me a happy camper.

Last I checked (probably back in 2005) we could only own curio and relic machine guns (old ****). I don't really know if it's changed since then. I don't keep up on it since that stuff is way out of my price range.

anyway, I don't understand the sound suppressor thing either. I'm sure some politicians were afraid that someone wouldn't be able to tell where shots were coming from. Not that you could tell when you can hear it anyway. It would be nice to save my ears.

Good luck with the SBR paperwork. I might attempt that some day, but for now 16" is fine for me.
