So, finally getting around to installing my gutted dp in my girlfriends wrx and I'm not telling her I'm doing it. ;)

Do I gut the third cat or keep it intact?

    let's discuss...

Emissions is crap. The world will catch fire one day anyway when the terrorists light off some super nuke they buy off the black market. Might as well fill the tank with anything other than "Blue Planet" gas and pull the plugs.

Blow up? From what? Un-catted exhaust? NO!!!! Your gonna do much more harm for the well being of that motor if you don't also take out that up-pipe, which will break apart and eat your turbo!

Gut it, and get it over with. Your engine will not blow up. If it would blow up from no managment, Cobb stage 2 would blow up faster from further advanced timing, maxed injectors, and a tad more boost. The only advantage to managment is no P0420 code... and the more boost/fuel.....

What the .....? :lollol: you guys are nuts!! I haven't seen replys like this in a long time....

I originally asked because all topics I've seen that discussing gutted downpipes rarely mention the third cat.

So, while I'm working on the car should I put in my new turbo timer, full atmospheric bov, and manual boost controller???????????

    let's discuss...

Its going to explode and kill us all S.S. LOL. This is probably why the stock maps are so rich.

Do gutted downpipes flow a lot better? It seems like that flat flange at the top is most of the problem with that thing.

I can get you an openECU stage 1 map fer cheep.

Yes, anytime you remove the cats it will flow much better. The downpipe cat is the most restrictive. The blocked wastegate with the stock dp doesn't seem to be an issue on a stock map. However, I personally wouldn't reflash the ecu to any map without actually having an aftermarket bellmouth or divorced wastegate design. But that's my personal opinion.

Thanks on the map offer, I have a hook-up though
