I was in Kansas City over the weekend and there was a hail storm there . After the storm ended I walked out and there my car was with hail dents on the roof and hood. I have comprehensive insurance, should I report it and have them repair it? Usually do they repaint the whole car for hail dents? Would they total my car if I do report it? Thanks
I'd report it. You're paying for comprehensive, might as well use it. Depending on the damage of the dents, paint less dent repair is normally what they would try first. Remember that your satisfaction is determined with repair shops. You choose which one to go too, and what you expect out of their work. They will get pulled by the insurance companies if they do a bad job. I'd find it hard to believe they would total your car, unless it caused the roof toe cave in.
I can't tell what year your car is, but it is unlikely they will total it. For them to total it the cost to repair typically has to hit the 70% of value threshold. I would recommend getting an estimate to find out what the cost to repair would be, but just keep in mind you still have your deductible to pay.
Looks like a Saabaru? Report it for sure, and do your home work on body shops that do paintless dent repair. Good luck
Thanks guys, yea its a 2006. I am looking around the eden prairie area for a good body shop. Hopefully I find one with good reviews.
No good. Hope it gets resolved soon! I have a couple spots on mine. not noticeable enough to report though...
They usually pop them out if they aren't too big. Had mine done by Raymond's a few years back when East side St. Paul had that hail storm. I didn't know at the time until my car got hit. But that is what my guy at Raymond said, they will pop them out from under the roof, hood more than likely you will get a new one though.
I hate to say it, but good luck with getting the Saabaru fixed. The Aero's (like WRX's) have an aluminum hood and it is difficult to do PDR on aluminum, depending on how bad the hail damage is. My 05 saabaru got hail damage and they had to replace the hood. The problem now with Saabaru's is that it is extremely difficult to find the body panels, hoods, hatches, etc. Start searching, and keep an eye out on saab92x.com as well.
Is it hard for the body shop to find them too? I took it to Lamettrys today and they quoted me around 2500$.
Don't know, Don't care as they did an amazing job getting all mine and my brothers hail damage out. I go there for all my door dings as well. Highly recommended. http://www.autorepairshopwayzata.com/home
Yep it's sometimes about as hard forus as finding them yourself. We go through a few different aftermarket companies but they typically only carry popular model parts, but can take special orders that can take up to 3 weeks. Worst case scenario they would find a used one and repair it if a part on yours was impairable. Keep in mind that even though the repairs may only take 2-3 days, the parts take longer to come in. Insurance companies will only cover rental cost for the days it calls for repair. PDR only works with dents smaller than a nickel, any larger than that and they will have to be fixed conventionally. In that case make sure you find a good shop with experienced painters. I work at a shop in Hopkins, otherwise if you're looking for one closer to you, lamettrys is a good outfit. Most of their painters and techs have been there for 10+ years and it's still actually family run. Good luck!
You should not have to paint it or replace any parts, If you do they just want $. Just look what PDR can do Dentkraft pictures btw Before And after Another Car And After
I have to take exception with this. "My man" Juergen removed a softball sized dent from the rear quarter of my Camry many years ago. After buffing the scuffs out of the paint, it was as good as new. He has been my go-to guy for dent issues for almost two decades now (long before there were PDR places on every corner). He is an effin' magician. http://www.juergensdentkraft.net/
I should have said most not only. It all depends on the dent, the size, depth, area, etc if it's an easy to get to spot some larger dents can be massaged out. But if there is any creasing it most likely can't. We have dentkraft and dent wizard come out to do a lot of our PDR stuff and I will second on saying they do an awesome job!
I've had great experiences with lamettrys in EP. Brandon is my go-to guy over there. Tell him brett sent you.
Just an update got them Hail damages fixed at Lamettry's and got my car today. They do a pretty decent job all around will recommend. Car looks almost new haha.
