Hey guys! I have been getting alot of calls for the 225/45/17 RS 3s. They are on back-order 30-60 days. If you have an alternate size you would like to check just let me know. Most 18 sizes are available. Just trying to clear things up as I have had several calls from the subaru community. I am still trying to find someone that may have some in stock. I will update with any new info as soon as I know.

I went with the Hankook evo v12's due to the better hyrdroplaining and wet traction performance in addition to reported comfort ratings for my DD. I see they are very closely priced via tirerack.com.

Any input on how they compare?

I like the Kumho XS but they wear rather fast being they have a 180 tread wear rating.

But you can't exactly directly compare Hankook treadwear rating to Kumho, right?

No, you can't. Each tire maker makes up their own rules on what a TW Rating means to them since there's no standard to calibrate them all with one another. A 180 TW to Kumho is not 180 TW to Hankook is not 180 TW to General. However, they usually help in identifying what each tire is designed to do.

I have had the pleasure of driving on both XS and RS3 at ride and drives. Allthough the XS is a great tire, the Hankook RS3, is hands down a stickier tire.(cheaper as well) As for a comparison to the V12... thats like comparing race gas to 87 unleaded. (apples and oranges) V12 is more of a daily driveable street tire with a little edge for spirited driving. RS3 belongs on the track, designed for nothing but auto x and track days.

Star spec is always a great choice. Not quite as sticky as the RS3 but a bad ass tire for DD and track days. Also great in the rain (as far as track style tires go)
