I bought a used Passport 8500 X50 and got the device with a coiled smartcord. I want to hardwire it to the Compass/Auto dimming mirror. These are the instructions I found on the Valentine V1 http://www.scoobymods.com/forums/showthread.php?t=5328 One of the instructions I found said that I can use a regular RJ11 phone cable to connect to the power. I am not really familiar with electronics and was wondering if someone would explain me how to do this with the Passport instead of Valentine. Searching here brought me to a thread by Speedemon but he had a hardwire kit. I do not have that. what should i do?
i hardwired my passport escort 8500 using a regular phone cord, i just wired it up where the map light is. i dont know what color wire off the top of my head you have to tap into (yellow or green iirc). but if you look at your stock wire that plugs into the detector, there should only be two used wires off the phone jack part (i think far left and far right), just use the same two wires off the regular phone cord.
Cool. I'll try that. So do i need to splice into the cable or there will be an extra one in the dome? Also, i need 16 gauge splicers?
