I stumbled upon this, but I can't get it to work at school. https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/13672
It works for me. I got it from here. http://scitech.blogs.cnn.com/2010/04/22/dear-facebook-what-about-dislike-and-go-away/?hpt=T2 I think facebook would be a better place with a little more negativity.
No, it will still be fail, even with a dislike button. Facebook is the WalMart of the internet. A place where you can be a complete narcissist and 99% of the responses to that narcissism are positive. A place where you can collect friends like pokemon and not really develop any relationship with them. A place to spam your 'friends' with all the dumbass app garbage updates and status updates your little heart desires, without actually engaging them in any sort of discussion. And soon, this Facebook crap will be littered about nearly all the sites you visit. Integrated into news articles and such, it's already happening. They have buttons on most news sites now that let you "like" and "blog" about the article on your Facebook. We've come to an impasse here on the internet. Net neutrality is on its way out the door as network throttling to preferred services by your ISP will be likely implemented in the near future, and everything you read or view on the internet will have Facebook clutter littered about it. Sites will assimilate into the FB collective, and if you don't have a Facebook account, you wont be able to comment on stories or discuss them with people. Social network sites are a disease, and don't get me started on Twitter. That site is pure, unadultered narcissism. Not only does it allow you to post constant and immediate updates about your boring life, but you do it in a laissez faire, 140 word, I-don't-give-enough-of-a-damn-about-you-the-reader-to-be-bothered-with-writing-full-paragraphs format. I'm at a point now where I'm thinking that within the next few years I'll be reduced to using the internet simply to torrent TV shows and stream Netflix. And that is assuming that NetFlix doesn't get littered with Facebook garbage too. And it's kindof a pain, but I may have to setup a filter to block anything Facebook related on my browser. /rant.
Now they are talking about implementing a feature that lets you use facebook to browse the internet (like those sites that let you log in and comment with your facebook acct, except it's pretending it's a browser) http://www.pcworld.com/article/194770/how_facebook_plans_to_dominate_the_web.html I also think facebook doesn't need dislike "buttons" It was bad enough putting stuff that I knew people would disagree with up and then having to weed through all the inane comments.
BWAHAHAHAHA. Hook line and sinker. I posted my opinion, and already two of you have gone out of your way to try to get it deleted. Welcome to the real internet, where people have opinions of things that differ from yours. If you want people to pat you on the ass no matter how stupid the things coming out of your mouth are, then head on back to Facebook...it's perfect for that sort of fluff.
I have no problem with your views on Facebook or any social site for that matter. You have your opinions just like everyone else and I totally respect that. I think you use some inappropriate language and as a "moderator" you are making people reconsider if they want to be a part of a group that allows someone in your position to use the words you use.
As a user, I'll use whatever language is allowed on this site. I always have. If you've met me in person, I'm no different in person than I am on here. Most people don't seem to mind it, a good number of them like it, others don't like it. It's part of what makes us all individuals. I am who I am, and I'm not going to change who I am so that you can have more fun in the sandbox. As a moderator, I'll do moderation tasks such as delete and edit posts, lock threads, and ban users if necessary. What I wont do is sugar coat my opinions, or give chocolate to the rainbow unicorns so that everything is nicey nice. If the mod/admin team takes issue with what I'm doing on the forums, they can moderate me as needed. You'll notice they edited my first post in this thread because it didn't jive with the standing rules. When I break the rules, I get my peepee slapped just like anyone else around here. Don't confuse "moderator" with "ambassador" or "the Pope." It isn't my job to pat you on the ass and get you a cold beverage when you walk through the door here, and smile and nod at everything you say. If new users can't read another person's opinion without storming off into the sunset, fine by me. Those are the same kind of people that sluff off good movies and music because they have "omg naughty words and stuff" in them. And here's a special tidbit of knowledge for you. I've been doing what I do here for 7 years. If it was detrimental to new user signups, I would have been long gone long ago. The only people I've knowingly driven off are people that you don't want here anyway.
She's got a point. Why be so negative in someone else's thread? If you hate facebook, start a thread or blog (actually, I think you already have). Should we just all go back to middle-school name calling, because the rest of the internet is that way? You make valid points, if pessimistic. But why is it cool for you to do this and not be punished, whereas someone with 10 posts could come in here, try to do the same, and get their posts deleted? In my opinion, it's making the site somewhat unfriendly to anyone that's new. If you're trying to keep this a place just for old-school, close-knit people to BS and heckle each other, and shun everyone else, that's pretty sad. I thought that's what t3hwoot.com was for. There's my other $.01. The rest was reserved for our PM's.
You know what I have to say about this ****? Everyone has an ignore list. Use it. *edit* and I just want to say, don't argue with me about this point. You can't change users. If you don't like what they have to say, put them on ignore. It IS a solution and it does work. You can ignore moderators. But this arguing on the internet thing is stupid.
Not true, people will still click "view post" on his posts, because of a masochistc desire to be yelled at. I know he uses his ignore list.
Like I told you in my PM to you, we had a meeting, and we've decided this place needs some color again. If someone with 10 posts wants to come into a thread and voice their opinion, then by all means. As long as they aren't breaking any of the site rules, we see no problem with it. Ok, I'll accept that my placement of this post was probably unfair to the topic starter. I'll delete it. That way you kids can be free of all the mean stuff, and we can go back to the tea-party we were having. And mean ol' Readymix will just slink off into the corner with his opinions that are naughty and mean, and nobody has to delete their user accounts.
I think that if you dislike facebook, you have every right to express that on an OT thread discussing facebook. Leave it.
That's just it, I don't use it. Because I care about what others have to say. I don't hide opinionated users that have differing opinions because I like not living in a sanitized, rainbow filled candy land. I like it when people disagree with me, it makes discussions and topics more fun. And I'm glad you all disagree with me and it gets you all butthurt. It makes my laughs at your expense all the more fun. But yeah, if you want your MNSubaru to be just like Facebook, have fun putting everyone you don't like or agree with on the ignore list. Then you can have your pretty, sanitized internet land free of naughty words and differing opinions. I wish there was some way to see how many people have me on ignore. I wear that like a badge of honor. That you got so butthurt about something I said that you just couldn't go on living anymore without blocking my posts from your view. It makes me feel special. <3
I think the point of the whole plug in for the facebook site is so people disagree with other people seemingly insignificant and pointless wall postings that have become all so popular. Maybe if they would have had this feature from the get go it would not be such a care bare, self absorbed teenager, i wish i could be on MTV real life, website. IMO facebook went down hill the second they opened up it up people outside of college .edu email addresses and started news feeds. Personally I do like the idea of a dislike button.. maybe now I'll start handing out some dislikes to all the fake people who post up worthless info that ruined facebook.
ReadyMix, the Professional Button-Pusher. Back on topic. Piddster, I'll give it a shot when I get home. Can't use Firefox or any other browser besides crappy IE6 at work, not even the mobile versions on a USB stick. Doubt I'll use the app, but I'll give it a shot. Edit: Not butthurt at all. And what's this ignore list? I'm the same, I'd rather see everyone's opinions. Yeah, it would be pretty boring if everyone agreed with each other, but there's the other extreme where your way is the right way, and anything else is complete crap. Yin and Yang, my man.
People are allowed to have opinions, no matter how loud or ignorant they may be, they can still have them, and flaunt them. Readymix is actually a lot more "tolerant" than you may percieve him to be. He has things that piss him off, but so what. You do too. All of you do. One of his happens to be facebook. I can agree with him on that, because my personal experience with it was pretty bad, i liken it to a bunch of cheerleader tryouts in high school - all people converging to see who is the biggest attention whore or who can spam your feed with the most useless games. It's not for me, perhaps it's for you? I do not care. Just because someone cries the loudest doesn't necessarily mean they are not worth listening to. It's the people who disagree who then cry louder. Just look at Glenn Beck if you dont' believe me. To "tolerate" something means you put up with it. It can still piss you off. And really, are we going to keep pushing this issue? Discuss the ****ing facebook feature already.
Facebook sucks. I'm still on it tho. Its one of those love/hate things. I hate IT, but I love being able to keep in contact with people that I normally wouldn't be able to get in contact with. However, if they didn't spend so much time on Facebook, maybe they'd pick up their damn phones.. Hmmmmm.......... As for the dislike button --- I just post it. I don't need a damn button.
Jason, I don't disagree wit your take on facebook at all. However, it has become a necessary evil with some contacts I have that I'd rather not loose. Being in the market for an entry level engineering job puts me at the mercy of many other people right now. I can count on one hand how many "status updates" I've posted in the four or five years I've had an account. Not my thing, and I hide people who post pointless babble all day. I just like the dislike button because the facebook people won't do it, and many people have wanted it for a while. And I find it humorous to be able to crap on people's statuses. That is all. And grow some skin people. Jason is allowed to crap in my threads all he wants.
LOL, so now having my own strong opinion of something = intolerance. That's rich. I flat out agreed with you on your reasons for liking Facebook in our PMs. Yes, it's great for keeping up with Family and sharing pictures. I don't deny that. When was I intolerant of anyone else's opinion? I don't see anyone here voicing an opinion on the subject, so there isn't an opinion for me to be intolerant of. I tolerate a ton of crap that pisses me off, but it doesn't mean I'm not allowed to be pissed off about it or hate it. That's called "having an opinion." Not tolerating it would mean I ban you and delete all posts that don't agree with my opinion. Last I checked, I'm the only person in this thread that has been moderated so far. And I've had two people in this thread send their sack of tears to the moderators to tell me to shut up. Now who is intolerant? How bout this, you want me to be intolerant so badly, and you want to call me out as a bad moderator so badly, from now on, for the both of you, I'll be exactly that. Any time either of you disagrees with my opinion, I'll delete your posts and serve you up a 24 hour ban. And if you piss and moan to the moderators about my opinions, I'll ban you for 24 hours. I'll be exactly the intolerant jackass you're making me out to be. I've heard it time and again from people that can't distinguish between me as a user, and me as a moderator. So you know what, I'll give you a reason to hate me as a moderator. A reason that has nothing to do with who I am as a person and my opinions. I'm just going to discriminate you and be a dickhole moderator to you, and nobody else but you. Will that make you happy? That's what you seem to want from me. And you can toss Putz in your little group too, because I saw his stupid post in that shiny Evo hood thread a while back. I didn't respond to it because it was equally as retarded. But since I'm on a fascist moderator rampage against people that can't tell the difference between user opinion and moderator actions, I'll toss him in that group. So yeah, next one of you (you meaning RexNEffect, subiechick82 or putz) that reports a post by me to the moderators is getting banned. And, if you make a snide comment about how "that's not how a moderator should act" or whatever, you'll be banned. Now you have a reason to hate me and call me a bad moderator and an intolerant asshole....because I'm going to be that for you.
Bah, so intolerance was the wrong word to use. Whatever. It seems to have set you off even more. We agree to disagree. I'm an optimist, you're a pessimist, Jason, or am I wrong there as well? You're right Steph, I don't know Jason well enough. Maybe he is a "one love" kinda guy under that prickly exterior. I'm enjoying the debate, except for when it degrades to insults and whatnot. Like my "sack of tears", which was my opinion, and I was using the reporting function the correct way. I'm OK with you hating facebook and how it's detrimental to your legacy you want to leave behind, or something... What I had a problem with was the derailing of the thread and the language used to bash FB users. That I considered inappropriate, and you apologized for it. I get it. You like getting a rise out of people with your "User", so hopefully they get a rise out of you, then you get to swing the banhammer around as the "Moderator" if they cross the line. It's called baiting and trolling. You're the godfather, the don, the vigilante moderator, the bad cop, etc. and you're bored at work and maybe with life. Let's either just get a damn beer or two, or get some fisticuffs going, if that's what you want. Screw this virtual crap. I prefer the beers. Less explanation to everyone then having a bloody nose. If you need an audience, let's setup an event in the Events section. Who can outdrink who, and still argue their point. But, if you'd rather just want me to think you're a big internet bully who feels threatened, then feel free to ban me. Otherwise, I'm enjoying our little wordplay. And, I'm still at work, so unable to test the "Dislike" feature.
I didn't know an Officer could be banned by a Mod. Anyhow who is the commander in chief of this place?...Russ? :munching:
Fair enough, agree to disagree. Or the drink thing...if you are into that sort of sport drinking thing. Puking doesn't count as losing btw, that's my rule...because I'm allergic to certain beers and the only way to keep drinking is to get rid of what my body rejects. Trust me, you don't want to see the green foam I hoark up in the morning. And honestly, I am a lovable guy, but you have to be around me more I guess. Most of the people that spend time around me....especially when I'm wasted, will likely say "yeah, he's a ****ing jackass, but he's loyal." or something. I'm opinionated, and I am crass. Two things I refuse to change. Ex-wife tried to dumb me down, and for anyone that knew me then, I was a pretty mellow depressed person. Since then I've decided that i wont water myself down for anyone, ever. So, you're all stuck with me like this. Deal with it. Words of experience and wisdom here for all of you...there is compromise, and their is diluting yourself. I'll meet someone half way...but I'll be damned if I sell myself short. Also, jesus ****, you think I'm seriously going to overstep my bounds and start banning selected people because we disagree? C'mon, as fun as that sounds, I don't think it would last long. And yes, Lowrider, officers can be banned.
Well, nobody has chimed in yet so I will. The plug-in doesn't seem to work on my machine, unless I'm missing something. Bummer.
kinda like the pet dog with a bad case of worms... you hate when it drags its ass across your carpet but you also get a kick out of watching it,..... because with all its' faults the damn mutt is loyal... yep that sums you up ha ha a
