So, last night I was on the way home from a buddy's Birthday gathering in Eden Prairie. I was heading west on Highway 5 and was behind someone who was ALL OVER the road. Inconsistent speed, swerving into oncoming traffic the on to the shoulder and almost in the ditch, nearly running people off of the road... SCARY stuff!!! I got ahead of him because traffic kind of pushed me up, and he got right behind me. He almost rear ended me 4-5 times, then back to oncoming traffic, then off to the shoulder. He was for sure WASTED, drunk. I kept an eye on him as I passed him right before it went from a 4 lane road to a 2 lane road so he didn't hit me- he came close... I caught a glimpse of the guy and he looked to be in his 70's and barely had his eyes open. I called 911 and they transfered me to the county police. I told them where I was and they had a cop waiting for him in the next town. He pulled in behind the guy, watched him drive poorly and dangerously for while and then pulled him over. I pulled off to the right and as this guy came around me, he must have missed me by inches before stopping for the cop. The guy who I was talking to on the phone asked me if I wanted to leave my information. I had never called anyone in before, so I said "I would rather not." Just wondering if anything like this has ever happened to any of you, and if you did leave your informaton, what the state/county did with it?
Well, I listen to the 93x morning show on the way to work in the mornings (stay with me here...this is going somewhere!) and they have a sheriff or something come in sometimes and answer questions that callers have. One that caught me way off guard was a guy calling in about this same thing...calling in a drunk/bad driver. His question was about the giving a name or remaining anonymous. Turns out that either way, they have your name and information and can call you in as a witness or something. Although in your case I think it's different because the cop actually saw the driver drunk. I think the case on the radio had to do with someone calling in a license plate # and having them pulled over even though the cop saw nothing. It just struck me odd that even if you want to stay anonymous, you couldn't.
Right! Obviously with even simple caller ID, they know my name and phone number. If they know my name, they can find out everything about me, and call me back. The dispatcher told me that there was another caller who reported the guy and THEY left their information and it was ok if I didn't want to. I was nervous and scared due to the seriousness and uncertaitny of the situation - this guy could have caused some REAL damage, and I knew it, so I kind of froze when they asked me if I wanted to leave my name...
I wanted to do this once, but I had T-Mobile, and no service anywhere outside of the 494/694 loop (This was several years ago, back when T-mob was basically city only coverage). I was coming from St. Cloud down I94 and there was a girl driving a jacked up pickup truck, she'd accelerate like mad, weave all over the place, slow way down, repeat. Add in a beer can being thrown out the window about every 5 minutes, and her left leg sticking out the window. I just stayed about 1/2 mile behind her (sure as f--- didn't want her behind me where I couldn't keep a close eye on her), and kept hoping my phone would get service. She exited before it did, unfortunately.
ive called in a couple, one i actually was being directed by the dispatch on the phone, he was seeing me in the traffic cameras. Then I got to watch them pull the guy over, I then later had to go to court and testify, that mother Fer almost rear ended me! and almost took himself out on a couple of corners, stupid drunk drivers.
I called this chick in once on Thanksgiving day, I figured I didn't want anyone's thanksgiving to be ruined by a drunk driver. She was swerving left and right, also on to on coming traffic. They asked me to pull over and wait. Turns out she was only 16, just learning to drive, and her parents decided to give her a huge ass SUV to begin with. They were smart taking her out on Thanksgiving day because the roads are more clear. Still she drove so bad I thought she was drunk. They were pretty pissed at me but that's what happens when you drive bad. It's better to be safe than sorry. I may have ruined her thanksgiving but I wasn't about to feel bad that I didn't call it in.
I don't feel bad for calling him in, I feel proud! I'm just wondering if I should call the county police today and tell them that I called a driver in last night and leave my informaiton?
They'll contact you if they need you. They for sure have your number. But if they nabbed the guy dead-to-rights and nobody got hurt, they shouldn't need you.
i recently called in a suburban driving up 494 north around highway 7. This guy (i seen the driver) came up behind a bunch of cars around me at a super high rate of speed....I estimated 120+mph. he swerved into the far right lane, passed a number of cars, then swerved back to the far left lane. While doing so he almost flipped his truck while coming very close to rear ending a pick hauling a boat trailor. not cool
Coming back up to Duluth from the cities, I was passed. On the shoulder. A d-bag driving a black cadillac full of mid-twenties-looking males passed me on the damn shoulder, cut me off (I was in the left lane) and proceeded to weave through traffic. This shoulder passing continued sporadically until he passed out of view. Natural selection doesn't seem to be working fast enough.
I've called in drivers before too. Dispatch asked if I would continue following them. Afterwards, Jill commented that I was definitely a cop's son because I sounded just like one. "Lisence plate Whiskey Tango Foxtrot 234, 2004 Ford F150, black" "We are going westbound on 19th St, turning Northbound on 18th Ave" I thought about it later, and admitted she was right. It must have been hilarious.
Yes, I called in a drunk this summer. PD found a mostly empty big handle of vodka in his car. 2nd degree refusal (this was his 3rd) with vehcile forfeture. I almost had to testify, but didn't. You should have left your name though with the officer observing the driving conduct, you probably didn't technically need to, it amkes life easier.
I've never done it, but I've had someone call in on me. I was at the skatepark, and I ended up re-breaking my foot. So at the time, I couldn't afford to have an ambulance come, so I drove my self. I thought I could deal with the pain, but it seemed I started comming out of shock or something, because I was starting to feel the pain and pressure. So I porbably looked like I was drunk. I got pulled over 1 block from the hospital and the cop was PISSED at me. He knew right away I wasnt drunk, and followed me to the emergency room. I was kinda happy someone noticed.
this! I called in a guy in a GTi that passed me across a double yellow, approaching a hill, in a residential 30 mph zone, in the middle of the afternoon (there were actually kids playing in the yards 20 ft from the road!). He passed me like I was stopped, and I was easily going 35-38. I came over the hill, and saw him pull into a dead end development. so I followed, saw the car parked in a driveway. so I parked across the street, and read the license plate # and full street address to the cops. The driver must have seen me sitting outside, because he stepped out the front door and waved to me just as a cruiser pulled up. I was delivering, so I couldn't stay. I did give my information, but was never contacted.
Was it blue? I had a blue GTI whip by me outside of miller hill mall two days ago--he accelerated two car lengths only to slam on his brakes at the stop light. He looked out his window and stared back to gauge my reaction. WTF? This isn't the first time I've heard of Duluth VW drivers being complete tools on the road...just sayin.
YES... thankyou... now if you had a beater truck you could have ran him into the ditch then said HE hit you
ive called in 3 while driving and one drunk bitch who was stuck in a snowbank 2 new years eves ago. i tried to help her out and she was just wasted
ssssssssooooooooooooooo wasted right now, luckily i'm nut drubing anywhere tonight, only goinujng out. jack sparrrrrrw ftw
Once again Erik wins at everything. THE KRAKEN! Also I have called in many people (Tim you might remember a few). I try not to leave my info.
didnt someone put an awesome add on craigslist with her number in there somewhere? leading her to seek a lawsuit? :eek3::laugh:
I get a lot of flack for this idea, but I take it seriously enough that if a friend refused to not drive while they were drinking I would call them in. It's never even come close to happening, nor do I think it ever will, but if it does.... It would most likely kill a friendship, but not kill them.
I called in a 240SX last night driving to the movie theater. He kept trying to get me to race, repeatedly going pulling next to me, dropping a few gears, and taking off, nearing 100mph. He pulled off going north on 169 right after I called him in for reckless driving. If you're on here man, keep it on the track.
Do you not drive after 10PM on weekends? Personally, I'm a bit hyper senstive to DWI signals, rapidy changing speeds, weaving out of lane repeatedly are huge signals. If you obviously notice something (this generally means they do ~3 suspicious things within a few minutes), they're most likely somehow impaired (and if not they need someone to make sure they're over 16) Granted the guy I called in (who got arrested and convicted) was drivingf around at 12 noon with what was probably >.20 BAC. He almost hit the barrier on 100. Then sped up to 90+ mph, then quickly slowed to 50mph, then sped up to ~80mph, then down to ~60mph. All while havings erious issues staying in the lane. Most aren't that obvious, but not non-obvious. On my last ride-along there was DWI pulling a (fairly large) boat on 94 near dale. Apparently he was having some serious issues (stopped by a state patrol officer), scary stuff given the huge damage he could have done if he lost control.
Driving home one Sunday I overheard the results of a dangerous driver call in on my HAM radio. Dispatcher alerted county deputies to a report of a blonde in a pontiac driving erratically on Hwy 10. Two deputies proceeded to intercept locations. After about 10 min. one deputy radios to the other, "Any sight of a blonde in a pontiac driving erratically?" The other responded, "Which one?" I nearly drove off the road laughing.
And there should have been a dropped and lifted s-10 next to him. And should have had the rare MDM d14 fwd swap.
While working the grave at Perkins (server), I've called in several vehicles. These people come in and get food and treat me like I'm a piece garbage -I call THOSE people in. Anyway... One night two young guys come in to get a to-go order and walk into the door because they are so drunk. I call the cops as they are waiting for their food. They walk out (without leaving a tip, because you should still tip on to-go orders at restaurants). The police officer is shines his lights on the car as they are climbing in! I was sooo pissed! My guess is that the officer didn't want to deal with a DUI arrest that night. They obviously drove there! He got them for underage consumption instead. What makes me even more pissed is that my manager talked to me about calling in drunk drivers. He said it was "bad for business".
Nope, purple. It obviously had some serious bodywork done, as evidence by all the drilled out holes to pull out the fenders. I gave him the OMG UR SO COOL face complete with giant whacking off motion, but the kid didn't get the point that I thought he was dumb as nail. Keep it on the track buddy.
I don't mean KFC and McDonalds- Someone had to take time away from other tipping tables to get your food together. It's a pain in the ass. Especially if you are the only one working at the time- you have to be the server, host, and busser.
