Well, i just figured out i only had 88 dollars in my checking account after Minnesota tax was taken out. And i owe another 150 to the Feds. So my question is, if Feds did try to cash my check today would i see it bounce on online banking site? I did ask the clerk at the bank and he said he did not see any attempted withdrawals. And if my check did bounce what are the consequences? Thanks, Taras
Chances are if it bounced, your bank would cover it, and you'd have to pay the 30$ fee or whatever to your bank. They will get their money no matter what.
so wait, i got a refund this year, and i'm not in school .. why are you paying money to the feds and the state? did you claim too high of a number on your taxes? (ie, 0, 1, 2 on your w-9 form?)
yeah i work for Hamline as a student worker and the ****ers screwed up somehow and i ended up owing 350 bucks.
I only have a W-2 form. Hamline does the rest. They do all the claiming. I was told they put me as a Married instead of single.
Um, that's illegal I believe. They can't fill out your W-4. **EDIT** Nevermind. You still have to sign the W-4 to accept the information. SO you fail.
I did sign it 3 years ago and it was alright. And last year i got 200 bucks back. This year i have to give them 300 and i made almost a grand less than last year. The only thing i filled out this year was all the stuff for the tax return. HR at my college does the rest. So if you dont know **** yourself STFU!
Taras, without angering the readymix you need to alter your own tax forms. the school will only hold your hand for so long. You should have access to them, just fix it so you don't have to worry about this next year.
You still had to sign the W-4 form. Therefore you looked at the form. It's about half the size of a sheet of paper. It takes 5 minutes to fill out, and fewer minutes to read. You signed a form and didn't look it over. I do know what I'm talking about. You still fail.
No, Jason, you are WRONG. You do not get to sign your form each and every year unless you make a change. If his job has not changed, nothing else has changed.
I understand that. But the initial W-4 that was submitted had his signature on it authorizing the information upon it to be used for his taxation.
Yes, i need to go talk to them about this. But i have no idea how they screwed it up, because it was fine for two years. We as student workers have no access to W-4's. I did sign it 3 years ago and i claimed 0 and single on it. Somehow it changed from single to married (most likely). I dont have access to it on regular basis.
http://taxes.about.com/od/preparingyourtaxes/ht/W4.htm There is a link on there to download a W-4 form. Everyone has access to it. Fill it out and give it to them now so it doesn't happen next year. And for them to make alterations to your W-4 without your signature doesn't sound legal. You have to sign the W-4 for it to be valid.
Thanks. I have no idea how or if it changed but for some reason i had way less money taken out of my paycheck than last year. I have no idea how that happened. I did not touch my w-4 form. I worked a little bit less and had a 90cent raise. thats it.
Is there any single piece of IRS paperwork that causes more confusion and consternation than the W-4? I saw the thread title and thought maybe you had a refund coming, and was worried that the gummint check was going to bounce.
