Yo, Johnniz, I just changed my rear, front diff and tranny fliud a few weeks ago... it's not that hard as long as you have access to a lift or jack that'll give you the needed clearance as well as the necessary tools. Name your place and time... I don't mind giving you a hand.
Just grab a quart of 75-90 Mobil 1 Gear oil. Don't need to jack the car up, just get a 1/4 inch drive ratchet and take the 2 plugs out starting with the top one. It probably wont turn easy so use a jack to push the ratchet handle up. If you cant get it, you could always come over some night and I'll help.
also, if you have hard time pouring the oil into the rear diff, you can tightly wrap a ziploc bag over the end of the bottle and poke a hole in the tip. no spilling!
I thought it was a 3/8" drive socket, but i could be wrong, i did mine last June. But pretty simple, i had to do the jack technique of budging the plug, believe its aluminum and when it corrodes, watch out.
Actually, it is 1/2" drive for the 2 plugs (unless you have a sti). As for the diff fluid, the rear lsd is sealed, so you can run the slippiest stuff you can find. I am running the amsoil series 2000 stuff in my rear, but I know most of the manual guys are running the std synthetic just to keep the fluid the same as the tranny. Russ
The rear diff bolts in my GC is 1/2". I used my impact wrench to take them out so I didn't need to raise the car. Also, I used a bigger funnel w/ a long clear tube attached to it to fill up both the rear diff and the tranny. After hand-tightening the bottom bolt, I kept the tube in the top hole while another person helped hold the funnel and poured the stuff in. The fluid flows very slowly in colder weather, so it will take you a while if you're out in the cold.
