My friend and I got into a heated, albeit, stupid argument. Please vote. In the grand scheme of things, which matters more to you? 1) Whether there are 1 or 2 spaces after the period Example: where the "#" symbol represents a space: (asdf.#Asdf) vs (asdf.##Asdf) 2) Whether the toilet paper comes over the top of the roll (waterfall) or from the back (mullet)
Both matter. There are two spaces after a period (call me oldschool, it's how I learned and I stick by it), and the toilet paper's gotta be off the top of the roll.
You guys are all OLD. it is ONE space after the period. TWO spaces was back in the day. I just got REAMED by my college prof for doing two spaces. I'd done two spaces my whole life, but the whole class said that ONE space is now the standard. I was shocked, but I conceded defeat.
ONE SPACE!! Unless you're using a typewriter. But with variable width fonts you don't need two spaces. (And this is more a more important issue than how the toilet paper is loaded, although "overhand" is the proper way to load it).
100% true. And it pisses me off when forum software strips out the extra space that I would prefer to leave in place between sentences. Forum software seems to be quite happy to let people prattle on in txt lingo or l33t speak, but my extra space is a verboten. It's a damn conspiracy, man !
When I see people use actual grammar and punctuation I am usually too impressed to care how many spaces they use as long as there is one. When it comes to my poop tickets..... if somebody comes into my home and dares put that roll in "mullet" style I will have to kill them and everyone they know to stop this.
I don't care how the TP is put on the roller, as long as it's put on there, and not sitting on the sink. And I still use 2 spaces. To hell with your "new standards." Until I see it happening in books, I do not believe it. It's supposed to be a pause between thoughts. Life moves pretty fast. If you don't slow down once in a while, you could miss it.
1 space or 2 spaces... im probably going to read it the same as will most of us. i said 1 because thats how i type my papers.
Both are important to me, but I decided toilet paper. I always use two spaces, but I know the "correct" way is one space. I think two spaces only became popular because of old spell/grammar checkers that didn't know any better. But if someone uses one space, it doesn't bother me nearly as much as if someone puts the toilet paper in the WRONG way.
I could care less which way the toilet paper is loaded as long as there is tp left. I think 2 spaces after a period is better but if I were writing a paper I'd use one.
I've always writtin with two spaces, but I don't necessarily notice much when reading. So I'd say tp in waterfall formation is more important. Ps. How "heated" did this argument get???
Dont do two spaces. I tried doing that when i was in college to reach my ten page requirement a little faster. I got shot down very quick!!
My essays were always MORE than the requirement. It's not hard to write a paper if you know what you're talking about. In creative writing, I had to cut my stories off early and the teacher enacted a MAX page limit. It's not hard to tell a story if you have an imagination. This is probably why nobody yelled at me about using 2 spaces. In fact, they ENCORAGED it. Explain that.
This is about as funny as the arguement we had at BLACKozone's house If a man and a man are having sex and there is a girl in the room its not gay? I'm sorry but its beyond homo. Also ferret ***** shoulder LAWL.
haha "two dicks can touch in a girls mouth, because her tongue would be touching both of them, its like a divider of sorts"
Apple followed RIM with that, it makes it quicker. On my Blackberry, if you type in an email field like this "place gmail com" it will put in "[email protected]" automatically. EDIT: Waterfall NOT mullet. I'll change it in other's places... lol
I have just been alerted to a possible use for mullet style toilet paper. I guess cats sometimes like to play with the roll, and if you have it mullet style, they won't unroll the whole thing. But I don't have a cat.
One space is how I learned it and I therefore stick to it. Glad to hear it is still the standard. As for TP; waterfall is generally better but I have had a dispenser located in a spot in my first house that I bought where underhand was required due to the angle of the roll and the fact that you needed to brace the roll with the top of your forefinger in order to tear it effectively. Where I live now, waterfall is the better way as it seems to be elsewhere in general.
Years back I was "informed" by a Trivia-inspired fellow that over-the-top was proper except when there was a cat and/or a child/children in the house. In which case, down-the-back was the correct TP deployment method. My cat considered toilet paper unrolling a childish pursuit, so I went with over-the-top. But this year my two year old turned three and began working on potty training. Luckily the phase has passed now (knock on wood) but we lost more than one roll of TP to the over-the-top placement. I never thought I would use the word "mullet" and the phrase "makes sense" in reference to each other, but life likes to throw sliders at ya from time to time. As for two spaces between sentences, are you serious!? Given how many posts have spaces in the middle of words and the spell check is completely ignored, how could you not have two spaces between sentences? I me an, seriously, it's about word count or paper length? Just fail the student's project for not meeting standards if the content is drivel. If the grade isn't on content, then who cares that they had two spaces between sentences, even if they typed in 12 pt font and spaced in 36 pt font? Um, that turned sour, sorry. Ah, what do you mean there are not two spaces between sentences?
