Look what just showed up in the mail this week! I think I'll media blast them and repaint them a different color. Not sure what color though. Probably just silver or black. I don't need to show them off. They just need to stop my car.

These will be going on my 02 WRX. I'm going to get new ceramic pads and probably new rotors. I've been eyeing up some stainless brake lines for the project too.

    Questions:

Which paint color should I go with (my car is sedona red)?

Does anyone have an extra set of rear calipers (so I can paint and swap all at once)?

    Which stainless lines are popular?

Anyone want the used pads that came with them? They are green in color and most of the pad is still there.

nice find. I would go black and then pout a subie sticker on there.

I agree. Anything other than black gets dirty too easily for my taste.

Nope, that is why I've spent a few dollars on 18" summer wheels and 17" winter wheels.

Can that be done without taking them apart? I don't want to spend more money on a rebuild kit. How much $$ would that run?

go to the dealer and find one you like, they have a huge catalog of decals. you might be able to order the OEM sticker for the 4pots. i bet it would be around $10 for a set or so.

the wrx wheels will not clear these. you need either 5 or 6 spoke RS wheels (98-01), some wheel from japan (V3+ IIRC, V2s had smaller brakes), or aftermarket wheels.

its not a sticker, the subaru logo is painted with white paint. its simple to repaint.

all the pre 2002 2.5RS wheels will clear them

There were two sets on eBay. These and another set that were not painted (cast silver). This set went first. I posted a thread about the second set on this board hoping someone would get them. If you bid against me on these... sorry. I would have rather gotten the silver ones which would be less work to paint black. But oh well, how was I supposed to know another set was coming up?

Thinking about painting them black. Pretty sure that's what is going to happen. Still need a stencil for painting "Subaru" back onto the caliper.

yeah i think if you just put a sticker on them the sticker mgiht hold up to daily driving, but once you got the puppys hot, it would bake itsels away, most likely the adhesive would dry up or burn off. use the sticker as a stencil

Alright now... I'm looking for someone who can do custom Vinyl. I want to create a new template put down on the caliper and paint the word SUBARU back on. Anyone on here do vinyl work or know someone who does? PM me if you know someone. That... or someone who does airbrushing.

I got them done. Take a look.

I got the paint masks from Gearhead Graphics. AMAZING customer service!!! Awesome prices. I had the masks within 24 hours of paying for them. The whole process from start to finish was only 48 hours. Amazing quality.

Now, I just need new rotors and ceramic brake pads.... Time to shop!! I'm going to need someone to drink my beer while I install these things. Who wants the job? It may involve some 'stepping on the brake pedal'.

(Isn't it funny how if you stare at any word for long enough time, it starts to look funny? SUBARU )

Thanks again Dave. I've got a few other applications in mind that I'll need your help with.

Finished the calipers off with a couple coats of clear coat this week. Tonite, I got my Cryo'd rotors and HPS pads installed with my 4-pots. Haven't bedded them in yet, will do that before work tomorrow. Here are some of the install pics. No one was around to help me bleed the brakes. So I picked up a lone-mechanic brake bleeder kit. Worked like a champ for $8 (at checkers).

Broke one bolt off in the old calipers, so I installed all new mounting bolts with anti-seize. I'm curious how other people have gotten those out. I'll probably try to drill the center out and flatten the sides. I've got a torch as well that I can try.

The Rota's clear these calipers just fine. The new calipers stick out quite a bit more than the stock 2-pots.

These damn things better stop the car on a dime. They fricken cost enough.

Pads and rotors will be your greatest increase in stopping power. The 4 pots just don't fade some damn bad.

Bring them over, we can sand blast them and throw a coat of VHT on them. I have a couple more paint masks left over after the project.

They are pretty much broke in now. They stop a ton better. Super smooth and much shorter stopping distances. Alot more confidence in braking now. Worthy upgrade.

Are those 17" wheels? I'm wondering how much smaller my brakes will look when I get new wheels.

Predavore, those are awesome, and an excellent job too! I have an idea of how I want my brake system to be, but this has helped me to visualize the job at hand.... How much were your rotors/calipers by chance?

The rotors were from FrozenRotors.com on the group buy. I got those and the Hawk pads at the same time. I don't remember what it was, $300+ I'm sure. The calipers were about $500 off eBay last year. Bolts were about $3 a piece. I wouldn't call it a cheap upgrade, but definately a nice one. :)

Well... finally pulled the calipers from their slumber and blasted and repainted them for use on the 08 wrx. Put vinyl stickers on instead of painting this time. Clear coated over them. Got some Goodridge lines and all new pads. Just need some time to install.

look very nice! I still love my red ones on my 06 wrx, but the black sure does look good. I thought about painting mine a different color but not sure on a color. I had thought about painting them the same color as my car and put the subaru lettering back on.
