Okay guys, I am taking a look at a 2002 WRX wagon today and would like to know what to look for. What are common problems with these vehicles? Thanks.

-If I posted this in the wrong forum, Mods please move it. Thanks.

MAKE SURE IT SHIFTS SMOOTHLY, if possible find out what mods it has had, current and durring its life, wouldn't be a bad idea to see if some one on the forum here would go with you to test drive and inspect.

If it has been left alone then there isnt a whole lot of problem areas, but if its modded you should do a compression test. If it has a CEL you are gonna want to take some kind of a scan tool to see what it is, misfire codes can be bad, and they can be no big deal, thats why I suggest to do a compression test. make sure it doesnt grind when you shift gears, make sure you get the trans good and hot, lots of times grinds wont show up untill the trans fluid has thinned out.

Something tells me you arent really looking at one though, You dont go from "dont like/want subarus" to "i'm gonna go look at an 02 wrx" I call BS.

And if the name David LaValle comes up, or you see WorldMotorCars or WMC anywhere where you are looking at said car, run away.

honestly, I don't want to start with this and I am going to go take a look at one. I am at the point where I can't drive my 240 and am car-less. I was just going to get a Honda for the time being, so that I have extra cash to put into my 240, but my mom wants me to look into a 4wd/awd vehicle. I don't want trucks/suv's due to poor gas mileage. Then I kind of saw this as an opportunity because I do snowboard and a wagon can allow me to haul my stuff. It's the white one listed on autotrader. If anyone knows anything about this vehicle I would really appreciate it.

If you see on the news about two asian kids missing, be sure to inform the cops that I was there. Hopefully it's good. I like the white paint.

get the before mentioned info (mods, history of maintenance and any issues prior) get info on the main driver of car to see what type of person was driving it. Look at the whole exterior/interior, engine bay. It never hurts to take pics and post them up. Or see if you can go get it inspected at subaru

Gas leak. I posted a thread about the 02/03 and most people said its soft of common thing for these yrs to have a gas leak(somewhere on the gas lines, engine). Leaks only when its cold.

My 02 is currently having this problem. I"m having it done at RSmotors tomorrow. will cost me $270 for labor.

the gas leak comes from the fuel rails. Improper fitment for severely cold climates.

it wasn't that bad, but I think the car is bad. First thing I noticed when saw the car was the side mirrors. Too ricey for me. We went in to get the keys to look at the car and she told me that she didn't know where she misplaced them. As we were leaving she waves to tell us to hold on. She then comes and tells me to come back in an hour. Now, if she can't find the keys, why would I even bother to come back? And if she did find them, why didn't we just look at the car then. I'm thinking the car has trouble starting and she wants to have it started by the time we come back. This is Michelle's Imports on Buerkle. Anyone ever deal with them?

    RUN!!!!

if the car is running when you get back... don't think twice, tell her to turn it off and save the gas.

lol. I'm not going back. I'm really not digging the mirrors. I want a car that I don't have to fix when I buy it.
