I think my turbo is leaking oil.:emo: I stopped at target after a short warm up and drive and noticed smoke coming out of my scoop. I popped the hood and there was smoke coming out from under the heat shield. I have the tmic off and the heat shield off now but I don't see any wet spots on or around the turbo. Do I need to remove the turbo to get at the drain back line, and if I do remove the turbo do I need new gaskets to avoid exaust leaks? ('04 wrx wagon)

There is a bit of oil residue in my tmic inlet. I'm not sure if that's normal as I'm new to suby's and this is my first time removing the top mount.

Are you sure you are leaking from the turbo? Could be leaking from somewhere else.

It's possible but the smoke seemed to be coming from the bottom side of the turbo.

it could just be an exhaust gasket leak...
is there any reason to believe your leaking oil? Oil spots on driveway? engine/underbody coated with oil?

Had the same problem last year. The smoke was coming through the hood scoop. When I would open the hood for a look-see I could see the smoke coming from the turbo/dp area. Don't know how or why, but it stopped on its own about a week later. No problems since, and i never did locate the source of the issue. But everything seems to be ok now! Good luck, you might want to wait it out a couple of weeks.:)

Have you moved anything around lately..like your turbo or up-pipe? Oil feed and coolant lines shouldn't just start leaking.

Thanks for the advice everyone. I'm a bit embarrased but it seems that I was leaking oil from my drain plug. I forgot to use a new crush gasket when I changed the oil. It looks like some of the oil got on the exaust that's where the smoke was comming from. I feel like a bonehead but better this than the alternatives.
