Ok so in the last 2 weeks i've gone on a buying spree. It started with just exhaust but now that i've broken the seal it's spiraled outta control haha How do you guys limit your spending? I haven't gone beyond my means yet but i fear with every mod i make i'll want more and MORE and MORE!!!!

Haha! Cancel yr credit cards. NOW!
Seriously tho, only using a debit card makes it a lot easier to hold off on the next "oh well, its only $100" mod.
What I do is take my favorite/most effective mod and compare the ones I want to it... as in "intercooler hoses would be nice but its 1/6 the cost of the AP and I know it wont give 1/6 the hp or satisfaction..."
I also try to convince myself the more mods I buy, the more I'll have to spend to balance the car out... as in "new turbo/intercooler would be great, but then I'd have to triple my spending on ss brake lines, pads, tires, and suspensions..." (Both approaches only temporarily slow the process down :) )

hehe, well when you hit the point when you can barely afford gas for you modded car, you will have no problem stopping.

i woudl reccomend spending more time researcing each mod, so that way instead of buying for instance an turbo, up down pipe all in one go. you could spend tons of time researching those pieces. ie which one to get do you wanna 18g or a 16g? TXS or Invidia or STi up? Invidia, Helix, TXS, HKS down? make sure you know your gettin the best piece (so you dont have to spend more money later to get the best piece) also spend lotsa time shopping around for the best prices ($$ save now = more or later mods). its impossible to stop modding, you just need to learn how to slow it down lol.

I like to eat, that helps slow the spending down, that and there are 2 living on basically one income right now, she likes to eat too so that helps me. When we have 2 incomes, then I am not sure what is going to slow down the modaholic in me..

Just spend as much as you possibly can on your car until it sinks you....then someone on the board will buy it for 1/2 of your investment....kidding...

When it comes to basic mods you should follow a simple rule....If you can't pay for it in cash you shouldn't buy it.

research, research, and more research before making a decision... no flame intended but you can spend alot of money buying alot of worthless mods and you can spend alot of money on few worthy mods, which would be better?

^^ I agree, research it until you know for sure you want it. then purposely wait a week, I usually decide I dont need it, and start wanting something else... big cycle.

I wish I was allowed to have your problem. The car belongs to my wife so everything goes through her first. unfortunately she thinks the car is fine the way it is. :emo:

obviusly you havent goen down enough gravel roads. once that exhuast gets too beat up you will need a new one (maybe a hks or something lol)

true dat! i never buy anything if i cant pay for it with cash. (or have enough cash to cover it). it slows things down alot esp. since i have no job in the winter. but it keeps ya from getting into too much trouble.

^ negatory, that would mandate the purchase of another STi or RS w/ STi swap.

sorry to post whore this thread but this an issue iv'e been dealing with for 4 years already... and i've come to realize that no one else really cares how fast your car is or what it looks like... the money you burn on your car never comes back to you and always could have been spent more wisely...
the thrill of driving is the only thing that keeps me modding
honestly nothing really matters... just enjoy yourself

I'll have to admit I'm a freak too. I joined a couple of other forums and did research about 1 year ago and then bought my car 3 weeks ago. It didn't arrive till yesterday and I have about 3/4 of the parts already here. I'll put a list out one of these days when I get pics etc.

I think I ordered about 15-20 parts already.

I had a kid, quit my job, and went back to school. Now I'm poor and have no money for mods. Living off the wife really put things into perspective:emo: . It took me 5 months of saving to afford my AP.

+1 with angusracer. Its fun money and can have no other demands on it. It is money you may get a fifty cent on the dollar return on, maybe. Driver enjoyment is the bottom line with all of us...some wives, i mean people, will never understand.

I wouldn't say there is a return on anything you put on your car. Very few people buy modded cars with spending extra for mods. I bought my STI below private value with about 5K in mods and I'll be listing my '01 Prelude soon which has about 5K in mods for about 1K less than private party sale based on KBB.
