To install an HiD kit into my 07 forester, wiuld i need anything special shrouding or projecter housings? Or would i be able to buy the kit and slap it in? Also, if i got a kit for my kow beams which are size H1, would that effect ny DRL'S or are they separate bulbs?

    Thanks subie community

Don't just slap the kit in your existing housings. You need HID housing so you don't throw light all over the place and blind everyone you come across.
Do it right $$$ or don't do it at all.

Nhibbs has some good advice. From the install on my 07 wrx, I had to cut the rubber housing on the back of my headlights to accept the wiring and bulb for the new HID. I also did this in my fog lights. I did not do the high beams. This may sound weird but when I had no HID I did not have DRL's. Once I did the HID's I now have DRL's. Not sure why, how to fix it (no one is) but it's not a big deal either. I would purchase their wiring set up or make your own to ensure that your power to the lights are even and strong. Good luck.

A proper retrofit isn't a minor job. You'll have to remove the lights from the vehicle, heat them to soften adhesive, or potentially even cut them open if the adhesive isn't the right kind. You will have to remove the stock glare shield, drill for the bi-xenon wiring (if desired), install the projector units (more potential modification to the housings) and seal everything back up. Then you do the wiring.

I'm not saying you shouldn't do it, but if you are uncertain of your ability, you may wish to go another route.

A little checking indicates that the 2007 Forester lights aren't hard to crack open, just a little heat.

    You will need:

Conversion projectors - H1 Minis typically fit just about everything, but if you can fit a D2S, it will work better.
Projector shrouds - this is to your own tastes and the room available.
HID ballasts and capsules (bulbs), to fit the projector you use (H1/D2S)
Wiring Harness from your stock system to the HID ballasts.

You can get all of these pieces in a single package from The Retrofit Source, or piece them together to fit your specific needs.

I would suggest getting a set of new aftermarket headlights, but looks like they're pretty spendy for the Foz (~$300/pair). But the replacement lights like Depo brand almost always use butyl rubber for the sealant, which is much nicer to work with, plus you have a good, clear lens (no buffing out a fogged/hazed lens). Building off a new set of OEM light s is the ultimate, of course, but that's really expensive.
