Whats the highest wattage bulb I can put in my stock bugeye foglights with out roasting them? Its getting dark sooner and I could use the extra light.

I ran 100W with no problems for over a year.

But it hardly makes a difference. I didn't bother to take them out because it wasn't worth the work, but it wasn't worth the work to install them in the first place.

Now, my Hella 500s with 100W bulbs are a huge improvement.

100watt bulbs may burn away at the reflecter if used long term.

I kinda doubt it. I ran 100W for over a year, I run my fogs all the time my lights are on and I don't really bother turning them off most of the time, so I put a lot of hours on them and the reflectors look just fine.

I think though, that running 100W bulbs with the stock wiring means that the voltage drop to the lights is significant. You may get a brighter light an the 55W stock bulbs, but not as bright as a 100W with a proper, heavier gauge wiring. With proper wiring, they might get hot enough to start affecting the reflector.

My Hellas are wired with 12ga coming off the battery right through a relay and the stock wiring harness just controls the relay.

it won't burn down into it but if you look closer you can see that the color of the reflector darkens over a period of time. you'll lose reflecting ability of the fogs as time goes.

I had 80W bulbs in my JDM fogs and they don't come close to the light output of my PIAA 55W bulbs. PIAA isn't cheap but they work well.

The Hella FF1000 will fit in the stock mounting location. some of these with even teh 50w bulbs are blindingly bright. (FYI: 10% off at rallylights.com)

might fit, but the FF100 comes in driving and pencil beams only, at least from rallylights/susquehana, which mean you need to wire up a new harness and run them only with the high beams.

The Hella 500 also mounts in the stock spot, and is available as a driving lens, or fog (clear or amber).

I've been running PIAA ions for a couple of years problem free...not sure of output.
