Hi everyone! I have Tein Basic Coilovers on my car, when i drive on a highway and if the road is not very flat the car bounces and me and my gf look like a bobble heads. When i go over bumps slow its fine and does not feel bouncy. I just wonder if it is normal for coilovers?

    Thaks, Taras

sounds like a poor choice in dampening. which wouldnt shock me for tein basics. so i would push that into the "normal for coilovers" catagory...

well you can't adjust the dampening on the basics so you're basically stuck with it

actually maybe it's not so bad the bounce may just enhance the "natural action". Seriously I have been looking at suspensions lately and the tien basics are not well liked.

it seems you CAN'T adjust dampening.....that sucks..... poor you...
I have BC Racing Coilovers and I can adjust mine just fine. They ride A LOT better than my eBay coilovers on RS struts. hahhaa But I tell ya I have to adjust my rear view mirrow several times over bumpy roads.

you are stuck with it. The issue arrises from the stiff spring rates, and poor dampening levels. If you could adjust the dampening it would be likely that you could adjust it so that the ride would be much smoother (far from perfect) but better.

I have AGX and Pinks and i get the highway bounce. it isnt that bad at 70mph but sometimes at 40mph it can be quite bad. I havent played with my dampening alot though.

The seats on the STi seem to amplify it a good bit. People with after market seats report that going almost completely away. Simply cutting the largest ring of your bumps stops will help that a lot (or getting Prodrive's).

only thing you notice with one is when you hit them uneven train tracks where one side hits it before the other and the suspension feels STIFFER. But I thinks you need better dampening.... I guess that what you get with BASICS?

Like other people said already, this rhythmic bouncing is due to poorly matched spring rates and damping for that particular section of road.

You're going to have a compromise with coilovers, and part of that is bouncing around all over the place. THATS WHY THEY DON'T MAKE CARS WITH SPRING RATES THAT HIGH.... and when they make coilovers with spring rates that high they almost always tell you they're not meant for the street. If they do tell you theyre fine for the street they're lying or playing mr tough guy.

but then hey, drive them on the street anyways and see if you know better.

And I wouldn't use a tein basic as a prop for a broken table, much less a piece of car suspension.

I don't seem to have this "bouncing" with my H&R coilovers, but the dampners(Bilstein) match the spring rates very well, even though they are not adjustable. They are a fairly stiff ride though. My ass will come off the seat once in a while if I hit a large enough dip or hump. Like going to Superior via the high bridge. Kyle can attest to that spot.
