Dear Hillclimb Driver, Currently we only have 27 drivers saying they will drive at this event next weekend. So many have had to drop out since the date was changed due to the rain-out. Usually we have a field of 60 and each driver gets about five runs. With so few drivers, those of you who do show will likely get seven or eight runs up the hill, even if we sign up another ten drivers. Not bad for $40. Tell your buddies to sign up soon! Is there a possibility of having a car with 2 drivers? Or is it logistically impossible? I'd like to bring the mr2 out for this, but I might have someone else that might want to drive it as well.
Yes. We'll have three run groups. I'll put the two drivers in two different run groups so you can easily share a car and still get as many runs as the other drivers. I'll give you car numbers such as 144 and 441 so you'll just have to move the 1 between runs. We do this all the time because many drivers like to share cars. The cost is still $40 per driver.
Cool! It's just like running rallycrosses. We do it the same way. So am I to assume that you guys will be providing numbers for the sides of our cars?
Forgive me, I'm a little punch drunk from studying and my humor maybe amiss. He has sun screen, he has numbers, he has tape, he has name tags for everyone colored by run groups with matching colored wrist bands. He is very organized. The event is pretty informal and a lot of fun. There wasn't a single Subaru at it last week. Here is some of what was there: View attachment 24926 View attachment 24927 View attachment 24928 View attachment 24929
Thanks for the kind words, Kurt! Yes I have rolls of painter's tape in many different colors. Drivers are welcome to borrow a roll to make numbers for their cars.
are there still spots open for this weekend? When is the deadline to sign up? Also, are there going to be car classes, etc?
Yes I still have spots open. Deadline for advance $40 registration to have your info on the printed roster is tonight at midnight. Otherwise you can still sign up, but your name won't be on the printed roster. If you wait until the morning of the event the cost will be $50. No car classes, no trophies, no dream vacations. Everyone gets a certificate listing their personal fastest time of day.
Do it! Tom throws some of the most unique and fun events in the area. He definitely has access to some prime locations and knows how to organize and run a fun filled day of driving! I wish I was in town for this!
Thanks for the kind words, idget. The hillclimb is my favorite event to run, mainly because the site is so beautiful and the course is so fun to drive.
Denny and I will be there with the 1rwd, dirty MR2. We've proved that we can stay pretty even for times in the dirt. Now we get to see who is faster on pavement. I'm a little worried about this one, to be honest. Not sure how I'll fair on tar. But it should be fun anyways!! Hmm......Should I shred the Hakka's at this one? Or just go with the crappy streets that I have? Decisions, decisions!!!
I just registered for the event, via sending payment on paypal...please let me know if you need anything else. I'm looking forward to the event, should be blast and a fun course!
OMG!! I remember that video!! That was hilarious! Don't need the trays, though. It's so light in the front end, it pushes really easy. Had to remove the front swaybar to get any bite with it. Even in the dirt!! Now it's a very neutral car if I leave the full size spare tire up front.
event was a blast! Thank you Tom and the austin healey club for hosting the event, and thank you kurt for posting it up here!
I have to say, anyone who didn't make it out to this event missed some real fun! Great job Tom!! Very fun and laid back event. And we got 8 runs in!!!! The MR2 decided to bleed all over the staging lane before the first run, so we ended up driving Denny's 02 WRX wagon. Had quite a bit of fun with it. In the end I bested Denny by a margin of only 0.11 seconds!! They only scored us for our fastest lap. We weren't the fastest, but we weren't the slowest either. I am definately gonna try to make it out again next year. Again Tom, fantastic event!!!
Tom's event are quite fun. A great mix of organization and user friendliness if that makes sense. Folks are pretty friendly too. Always a unique mix of vehicles. Amery Speed Event is this Saturday!
