So my mother and father were driving to church (this happened about 10 minutes ago).
They were on Phalen Blvd. Some lady was walking her dog, and then the dog ran in the middle of the street and my dad hit the dog. But it's alive, and the lady ran and grab the dog. It 'seemed' fine. But the lady wants us to pay for the bill of the dog.
She has our number, and we have her.
    No police report was file.
    She continue to walk off.

    What to do?

Um, the dog ran out in front of the car. I don't think you are liable. Was it on a leash? Did she let go of the leash? Did the leash break? She is responsible for the safety of the dog.

Dog ran out in front of the car, she was not crossing the street.

My mom called me, kind of sad, but I told her, it's not their fault. The dog ran into the middle of the road.

That really sucks. but she should have had control over her dog. its not your fault it ran in front of the car its hers. if you pay the vet bill make her pay for fixing any damage to the car.

I agree with everyone else. If the lady was walking her dog... she should have control of it! End of story not your parents fault.

Dog damage the vehicle? Could ask the old lady to pay for that if she is going to be a bitch!

the car was not damage, my dad was not going that fast , and it's more of a 'push' to the dog.
The dog did have a leash, but the lady was not holding onto the leash.

Her fault, not yours. When she calls with the vet bill, tell her to shove the bill, the dog, and the veterenarian up her ass and tell her to hold on to the leash next time since it doesn't do any good to put a leash on a dog and not hold the other end of it.

:( same thing happened to my neighbors dog, in front of his yard.

lady was driving kind of quick, ran over the dog and stopped right on top of him.

the dog was whining underneath the car, and the exhaust was hot too.

she backed out after calming down, the dog laid there for a while..died.

neighbor took it out to the backyard and buried it.

That is sad, but not your parents fault.

The street is for cars, the sidewalks are for people/pets, if a pet gets loose, not anyone's fault but the owner of the pet for not keeping it under control.

Got witnesses? Cause this lady could've though about it, and called cops, told'em your parents license plate, and said that she was crossing the street with her dog on a leash and they didn't stop, hit a dog and run off. In the end she might end up with your parents insurance info and file a claim for complete mri of the dog or smth. And insurance won't care, they'll just pay and raise premium.
Not saying this is what will happen, but better be prepared.

except they stopped and got each others info.. little hard for the lady to accuse them off hit and run when his parents have all her details ;)

Yes, that. Lady can't claim hit and run if she got license and other info from the driver. Also, if she decides to lie about it, she'd better hope she can prove it and hope there wasn't anyone else watching.

Who said she got info? Only phone number probably. So I would call her now, and tell her that she is getting nothing.

I would punch her in the nads. Tell her to hold on the damn leash, at least she has dinner now.

first post.. yes while only numbers you still can't get that if you NEVER STOPPED, hence she can't accuse them of hit and run!!!

If they don't call her until she files a claim - than its like they never had her phone number. I'm not saying that this what usually happens etc, but I wouldn't be surprised if it did.

that does not make any dman sense. it says in the first post they got there number so even if she files a claim does not mean they did not get her number.

My parents are like, whatever, she's worthless.
If she calls us and threatens us, we'll just tell her to go away. If she wants to push it further, then whatever.
We're not gonna call her. Do not want to speak to her or try to work out something with her.

Dog has leash, owner doesn't hold onto it, dog runs in middle of road and get hit, but it's drivers responsibility that it got hit?

There's the truth and there's stuff that the judge sees. After she files a claim, parents could look up her phone easily, so the fact that they know the phone, if there's no record of them calling this lady before the claim is filed = no proof that they had her number/stopped after hitting the dog.

Hit and run is a misdemeanor and not a civil matter.
Burden is on the state to prove he didn't stop beyond a reasonable doubt
