alright well, i really want to get a bike but the problem is, the lady will be very very mad and she said she would dump me if i got one, that set aside i would be looking in the 4-5k (of course maybe more too) range for a 'crotch rocket' 600 cbr or an r6 da da da you get the idea... or ive always wanted a Wrx more than likely an 02-03 because of financial troublez. now i can turn around and sell my car for lets say 5k conservatively. there for putting me in the 10-12k range for a bugeye... what do you think i should do- oooorr by a franken turbo kit for my car and boost the piss out of my 2.5
Would this be a first bike? If so, when you get either of those sportbikes make sure you ride them around here. I have a new spatula I've been meaning to try out. Seriously, if it's a first bike find something a little less powerful and a lot more forgiving. Something you're not going to cry over when it does get dumped, and something that you're not likely to cause someone to have to scrape you into the back of an ambulance. As far as the other two ideas, either has merit. I have to admit there are things I like about my GC more than my WRX but since you have a Legacy I can't really compare from experience. Given the choice between the older legacy or a newer WRX, I'd go with the WRX.
get rid of the woman and buy bike before you get married and all she says is no. should of bought my bike before I met my wife... lol. I have been nothing but happy with my wife of 2 years and no bike for 27.5
well i haz 03 bugeye and a gsxr 600....i loves them both but the WRX ftw man...you'll use that year round...then down the road get the bike....
As another girl, my arguments against a bike would be: 1. Way more dangerous (this is good, this means she likes you) 2. You can only drive it for a few months out of the year in MN 3. You can't take many passengers/things 4. It's expensive. Therefore you can't buy her as many things.... I would definitely tell you to go for the WRX. (She thinks) It's more practical, and you know she'll feel cool riding shotgun. Whatever you decide to do, maybe you should think about getting her something special to lessen her anger.
do you like riding shotgun with me? and im not going to get you something special its my b-day soon you need to get me something special.
Having ridden for 6 years, just know this. There are two kinds of riders. Riders that will go down, and those that have been down. In college I got a 4 year old FZR 600 and loved it. I didn't have a car, but lived in a house durring school with 12 other guys and could use theirs when I needed transportation. Just keep in mind that bikes can be dangerous- even for the most careful riders. I ALWAYS drove like everyone was out to kill me, and it kept me up for the most part, but I have crashed HARD a couple times and I thank God that I wasn't killed in two of the bad ones. Mine also took a good amount of service to keep it running. I had a lot of spare cash in college so it wasn't a big deal. I would like to get a bike again (I'm 32 now) but the wife won't have it, and I do my best to see her point of view. Not to bash anyone or put anyone down, but most guys my age that drive rockets seem to have a certian way about them, and I don't really fit that mold anymore. I would vote to get a reliable but fun WRX that you will enjoy year round, but that is just my .02.
keep your car, buy an SV 650, done...an sv is about 4K tops for a nice used one, they are torquey, and arent slow enough to get bored on. AND they get great gas mileage, get the bike.
I had a bike. lots of fun and I wont try to convince you not to get one, everybodies got to learn from their mistakes, thats as much as I'll say about that. An R6 or really any other 600 is too much bike for a beginner. You will go down and then will then join the realm of the sport bike community as a responsible rider, hopefully. Most guys it takes that first wreck to cure them of righthandtwist..er...itis. lol You can get a cheaper wrx, but remember the insurance costs, especially at our age is kind of ridiculous. Then you will get bit by the mod bug and start from there. I've seen your legacy, and it is beautiful! I vote you do a bunch of suspension work, brakes, and go buy a dirt bike or a quad to get your speed/adrenaline kicks out of. Just my .02 Keep in mind you can get hurt on a quad or a dirt bike, but usually the crashes are a lot more forgiving, and only involve you, not a 3-4,000lb vehicle, ridiculous speeds, and pavement slap from high-siding. Whatever you do, be safe.
Or even better, find a random hobby you really like and focus your moneys on that. I picked up muy thai and kali after highschool and found that I loved it, and that while my car was important, there are MANY other hobbies you can follow that will give you just as good of a feeling as going fast. Plus, you can get your girlfriend involved with something like that. Would she be pissed about a quad? you can get a wheeler then, that seats two and take her on camping trips or something.
If you have financial issues, the only thing that will raise insurance rates faster than a WRX is all the tickets you'll get on a sport bike.
Honestly, my advice is that you save your money. Buying a depreciating asset when you're already strapped for cash isn't the way to go...
I couldn't agree more with Brian, Scooby (sorry forgot your real name), Ted, Jack, and Nate The majority of us on here are fairly young, that being said you have plenty of time to piss away your money. I agree whole heartedly with learning by your own mistakes but also take in consideration those who have already experienced them.
the bike will not lose value as fast as the wrx, thats for sure. I basicly only payed 2K to ride my 06 zzr for 3 years, traded it in and they gave me 5K
If you insist on putting yourself into more financial trouble, buy that SV 650 that's for sale on here.
Yeah, what he said.... my 2c: If you have never ridden before and your first bike is a supersport 600, you are waiting to become a statistic, or worse - a long term health care patient. Sorry. Buy a helmet Take the MSF class Prove to the GF that you are taking the steps to prevent you from becoming the above statistic, by wearing the helmet always and not riding with anyone that wheelies down 494/694. As to the rest of it. None of my Girlfriends have been a really big fan of motorcycles, but we have somehow been able to work around it. So I have never been able to figure out why it is such a blanck and white issue to some people
Actually it's cheaper than the WRX and therefor leaves more money to spend on the girl Don't franken-modify anything that is your only means of transportation for it is the suck.
I do like riding shotgun with you, but I like it more when you ride b**ch in my car. Especially after I get my rumblez. I'll feel like a BAMF!
What I meant by that is that he is looking at expensive bikes- I'm sure his woman wants to ride in style too.
yes i agree. i dont think im old enough to be able to afford two toys comfortably. 1 or the other and i think the wrx is ftw. you frickin women all think the same ..but i too agree with you on the wrx ive been down, on my pocket bike doing 30mph. nothing big and i got nothing but a few scrapes and two bruises and one bad cut but it was deffinatly enough to sort of feel the experiance. of being 'downed' i wish i was in that position but unfortinatly im not so i think youre right about the rex id have to look in to them and if i did get a bike i would keep the car too for a winter car and a rainy day. im still trying to weight out the girlfriend or the bike  poor college kid. im doin my best yes i cant agree more with pretty much all of what you said EXCEPT i would have no where to ride a quad but if i did i would most deffinatly already have one cuz those things are badass! and about my legacy. i would most deffinatly love to keep it but unfortinatly (spelling) there are little to no aftermarket parts for my car. and i love my car to death and would mod the piss out of it but the only thing i can do really is bolt on stuff (minus a swap of course)..i cant even find a good cat back exhaust for my car unless i have one custom made but i try to do **** the right way and not the 'well it kinda works' way.
haha, i know how you feel with the aftermarket on the leggy's, but its a huuuge misconception. Most of the stuff just isnt labeled for legacy's, but realize that subaru's are like legos, and as long as you know your block type, you can find parts eeeeverywhere. There are quite a few guys that put the NA 2.5s in the 200whp category with things like cams and porting heads, etc. The other thing is that you can get custom exhaust setups that sound and LOOK considerably better than aftermarket stuff, for the simple reason that it was built on YOUR car, not someone else's. Also, it is a lot cheaper than spending money on shipping so you end up with a higher value system. I would focus your attention on getting things for your car that allow you to do more of the things you like to do. Make it more of a "partner in crime" to your activities, like getting a good snowboard rack, or getting some good speakers and sound dampening in the doors for long drives. Spend time on routine maintenance and re-building components that are factory but getting older. You can still have fun WORKING on your car without making it un-reliable. I just think the legacy GT's are such phenomenal cars to start with, that I have a hard time watching someone get rid of one, or frankenstein the motor with a turbo kit. Finding another hobby to spend money and time on to take your mind of the "faults" of your car can sometime help remind you of how much you like the little things about it. I know you're still thinking about the bike, and I'm glad there are riders on here who are positive about it. I think the MSF courses, and going on some coordinated rides with people who can protect as well as correct bad habits you might have is a huge deal. Stay away from the guys who are riding rockets with permits, etc. The other thing to realize is that while you are the number one threat to yourself on a bike, cars will put you into situations that many times are completely unavoidable. I have had PLENTY of "holy *#%@" moments, that I was NEVER responsible for. Just some thoughts...
well that i disagree on i say: there are those that have gone down and those who will....everyone and i mean everyone will lay a bike down in there life if they actually ride it more the twice a year...whether its sand, a car, or your own stupidity
I was reading his post and yours and trying to figure out the difference. I was confuzzled there for a while...
I say if you really want a bike, go for it. You'll always have a car in your life of some sort and a lifetime to modify it but there are always the guys that say they want a bike year after year and end up never ever picking one up. One thing that I regret after buying my bike was why the hell did I not do this 5 years ago. It would've been so nice. Now if I was 10 years older, who knows maybe I might be more reluctant to start up on it at all. So, therfore I may be a bit biased on getting a bike. I don't know your situation but if you're tight on cash, logic would tell me to stay with a car. But if you want to really feel alive, you could always pick up a decent used one and sell it for not much less or more than what you paid for it the following spring if it ain't your thing. Hint:Hint. MSF is your friend. IMO bikes and chicks go hand in hand, she might be uncomfortable with that.
i will concur that bikes and chicks go hand in hand....but at the same time you get the girls that just want to go ridin.....so you could be alright..but like i said i know from experience(i have both) and you HAVE to get the wrx
