    Hey,

I just noticed this yesterday, but there is a small hole right in the bottom of the driver's side seat. It's right where I sit. It almost looks like a burn hole. The problem is I don't smoke and have never had anyone in my car that does. The only thing I can think of is the seat heater - but is that even possible?

Has anyone had anything like this happen? Would this be covered under the warranty? It's not super noticeable but I am worried it will get worse with time.

    Thanks!

Year and model? How many miles is your warranty if you have one? Probably just wear and tear. Possibly a belt or something rubbing on it.

New seat covers, new seats, or deal with it.

It's a 2011 wrx with ~11k miles. I just have whatever the factory warranty is. It's right under where I sit so I'm not sure how a belt would rub it but I guess it's possible. I was hoping this was something that has happened before because I can't figure out for the life of me what would have caused this.

Ya that sounds weird> its not on a seam? Might be from the seat heater. Your warr should cover it if it is.

I can't see the seat heater regularly getting hot enough to melt the seat without either smelling funny or feeling way too hot to sit on.

    definitely interested in pics.

I'd have it looked at for sure, with the mileage on the car I would think that Subaru would step up on this one.

Very interested to see pics on this.

That's strange. it doesn't look like a burn hole, more like the fabric gave way at that spot. It doesn't look like the seam itself gave way.

I would think that could get covered under warranty, do you carry anything in your pockets that could cause this? A pocketknife with an external clip or something along those lines?

You are the fireman, but to me that looks like a burn hole, don't the fringes look melted?

Never. I carry a wallet in my back pocket that's about it. It looks to me like the foam padding underneath is burnt. Maybe I can get a better picture of under the fabric cover.

Look closely. You can see how the edges are serrated. Definitely not melted.

I think the photo just looks funny. It doesn't look burned to me based on the edges either, but there is a lot of fabric missing and there is a deep pocket of missing material underneath.

Nope, the ends are frayed. If it were a burn hole you'd see charring/melted material. This stuff is mostly synthetic material so you'd see discoloration and melted material like when you fuse the ends of cut nylon rope. It looks more like a fabric failure to me, I'm not sure about a puncture because it doesn't look like a clean cut.

The dealer said as long as they don't see anything fishy, it will be covered. I have an appointment Thursday at Morries.

That looks burned to me. I used to work in a climbing shop where I cut/ cauterized nylon rope and webbing everyday. The little bulges and bubbles on the edges give it away, as does the sheen. Nylon is much much more frayed when it is cut. Just my $.02 though. Couldn't hurt to take it to the dealer and try for warranty...

Thick corded nylon rope will fray if not fused, but this isn't nylon and the threads are much finer. If you look closely you can see some of the loose, frayed ends. If it were melted you wouldn't see that.

we seem to have ourselves a common case of rogue fabric, although it kind of appears burnt because of the crispy edging and the black center below the fabric. I have to agree that there are threads you can see that are frayed. Now had he said that it felt hard and solid, I would say it was burned.

Good luck to ya, hope it gets fixed!

I knew someone with a Jetta TDI that had a hole from the seat heaters. I would definitely have the dealer look at it and inspect it, which you are.:D Looks like the seat heater to me.

    Just to update:

Morrie's replaced it under warranty. They said they found the driver's side heater pad was shorted and caused the burn. They replaced the heating pad and the seat cushion. I didn't even realize that could happen, but at least it's fixed now!

Wow, glad to see that they're getting you taken care of.

That could have been a job security enhancer, wonder how many others they've got out there running around like that?

I'm turning in my helmet and badge this afternoon and I've scheduled my seppuku for later tonight. I'm looking for a good second right now to help with the beheading if I scream.

They've already scheduled the photo shoot, as well as shredding all copies of September.

My shame spiral is dropping faster than Derp's drawers around Josh.

I still have a small shred of dignity. My shame level isn't dropping that quickly.

Actually, I can't think of too many other things that can fall that fast.
