Do any of you guys/gals know or recommend a good reputable Furnace repair person (family members or friends) or company to use.

My Furnace fired up but no warm air is blowing through... I get a clicking sound from the lighter but nothing is happening.

    Thanks for any leads.

    Couple things to check,

Depending on how old your furnace is. Turn off the gas and power and remove front cover. If you look under the burners on one side will be an ignighter. It will be the thing that glows red and looks something like the inside of a light bulb. If that is broke it will not glow and lite up the gas.
Other thing looks like a nail that sticks up into the fire. Most of the time taking that out and cleaning it with a brillo pad will fix a furnace. I would start with cleaning that. Usally put in with 1 sheet metal screw.

If this doesn't sound easy to you dont do it. I dont want to read about you in the paper tomorrow. Most newer furnances dont have a pilot light anymore so the ignighter gets brittle and cracks. If your furnace has a pilot lite in it (little flame running) then it's probably a thermocouple that needs to be replaced. Kinda like a water heater. It screw into a control box and then sticks up into the fire.

Hope this helps. If it's a newer furnace try cleaning the thing that looks like a nail. The tip will look alittle green. I'm not a repair man, just have fixed my own a couple times and it's only 10yrs old. They dont make anything to last anymore

Thanks for the info... I'll look into it and do what I can. The furnace maybe about 10+ years old I'm guessing. I've taken the side plate out and notice that ticking noise is coming the igniter while there's blue flame towards the rear end. Turn on Furnace and gets clicking sound for 20+ sec and nothing. I was able to get it fired up once with warm air going through the vent for about 3 min then it stopped hasn't came back. Repeated again but nothing still.

I'm a little skeptical of my ability and hearing horror story of leaks and possible explosion etc...

I'm going to take a few photo shot and take it out to Menard and Home Depot to see what they recommend as well. If all else fail... guess I'll just have to plop out the Yellow page and go from there.

    Thanks though.

Where are you located? I talk with the owner of Riccar heating all the time being that he is one of my customers. They are located up here in Andover though

Are you registered with your local energy companies service plans? I had my share of issues with my old house and the blower motor had gone out. Called them they replaced it with no additional cost to me. If your not part of a plan maybe a good time to consider it. There is a 14 day probation period after enrolling. So if you do dont tell them about your current issue, just make sure the furnace is one of the items on the list and report the issue afterwards.

Leave it to the professional bro. Good luck.

    service plus...
    FTW

    your fan probobly burnt out.
that, or, depending on how it's wired, one of your relay's could be stuck that controls the damper switches.

mine will not fire a zone signal unless the damper switch is open, reguardless of what the thermostat is sending.

change your filter too while you are at it. 2 times a year boss. :)

Hi, I have a problem with my electric start furnace.

When I turn the thermostat to FAN it will run cool air, but when I turn the thermostat to AUTO with the heater setting set to high ; nothing happens (it does not run the blower or does anything). Could it be the conrtol board? or someting else?

Modern digital thermostat, or old dial-type?

The dial-type ones eventually give out, and are the cheapest thing to replace. Did one for a family friend this summer, all it took was swapping new for old, and you can get a 'stat for pretty cheap.

Just to be sure, you do have the thermostat set for "heat" and not "cool" or "off", assuming you have A/C too, right?
