Just as the title says, car is 04 WRX. Every time winter comes around and I have to open my hood to check on things I seem to have trouble closing my hood. I drop it like you should and it just won't close, try a little harder and same thing. So I have to push down on it to close, but sometimes that doesn't even hold it down, if you try and lift it when you press down to close it, it opens back up. BTW, this doesn't happen during the summer time. Any one else seem to be having this issue too?
I have this same issue and even if I think I have it close, it will pop back up while driving. A couple of years ago, I pulled over on 169 trying to get the damn thing shut for 30min before I slowly drove it home. What sort of lube am I looking for (don't get cute with that)? It's almost like it's an alignment issue with the shrinking of the metal or something.
white lithium spray works well for hinges, latches, etc. does this year wrx have piston openers on the hood? if so be sure to lube those as well.
After opening the hood push the hood release lever back forward cable may be sticking you can also spray white lithium on the cable ends just before it goes into the plastic cable cover and pill the hood latch numerous times to lube the cable.
I'd clean the exposed cable/plastic cable cover by the hood latch really well with WD40 and pull the hood release level on the interior many times to get the grit out. Once it closes properly, spray the white lithium in the cable by the hood latch.
The striker (top piece) could've been pushed back if you've slammed it too hard. Make sure the alignment on the latch and striker is straight then try lubing the hook on the striker because the hook is probably locking up due to the cold.
WD40 the latch last night since I didn't have much time looking for my lithium grease(son was sleeping, it's only me and him, had to do a quickie). Works for now and everything else seems straight. Again, thanks for all the replies.
