My wife and I are wanting a natural slate tile installed, and I thought I would throw the feelers out here. I've got about 300 square feet (+/-) to be installed over poured concrete. I have heard from people that with natural slate, unless you know what you're doing, HIRE someone to do the install - which I'm fine with. But, Ideally, what I would like to do is either help or watch the install for the large, square "easy" room do the bathroom and a closet myself. Which will obviously be more time consuming. Anyway, any references or help would be much appreciated. Anyone out there have natural slate installed? The feedback that we've gotten from people has been interesting. Some love it, some say don't do it... Thanks,
i used to do alot of tile work on the side. if you do slate/granite you need to make sure you have a saw that runs at high speeds.
I know a guy. E-mail me if you're still looking. My wife and I wanted slate, but decided to go with a porcelain faux slate from Italy. It's not any chaper than the real stuff, but nobody's ever realized it wasn't real without being told, and the maintenace is zero. And yes, under tile heat is very, very nice.
Funny you guys say that. The floor that it's going over is heated- although I'm scared to turn it on this winter due to the electricity bills. I wish I had Worsbo flooring... Thanks for all the tips and references! -ted
