Hi folks, I just picked up my first scooby (07 STI) and I'm looking forward to learning as much as I can about my new baby. I'm pleased to see such a strong local community with a clear passion for their machines. I hope to see meet some of you in the near future! Also, I'm currently looking for shop recommendations: http://mnsubaru.com/forums/showthread.php/39038-Pre-purchase-inspection-shop-recommendations Regards, -Surly
With any luck, all will turn out well with my purchase inspection. When/if that happens, I'll be all over posting pics and my (so far) very positive experience with the dealership in question.
Come on out to one of our regular weekly meets sometime! Tuesday's at Lake Calhoun: http://mnsubaru.com/forums/showthread.php/24969-Lake-Calhoun-Fun-In-The-Sun-Tuesdays! and Firestone on University on Fridays: http://mnsubaru.com/forums/showthread.php/7485-***Firestone-Thread*** . Lookin forward to seeing some pics also!
Welp, the STi didn't work out. Turns out the the car suffered through an unceremonious removal of a car alarm without the benefit of capping and tying off the cables. Apparently the ECU gets angry when a bunch of random wires ground out. So I decided to pick up a shiny new 2010 Legacy GT Limited instead.
Definitely come out to those and we are also having a LAX cruise on 7-31-10 http://mnsubaru.com/forums/showthread.php/38939-Official-2010-LAX-Cruise-Sign-Up-Thread-7-31-2010 hope to see you there too!
Unfortunate indeed. I cried a little on the inside when I found out it had to go back to auction. As you and RexNEffect had guessed (not that it was rocket science... particularly if you work there ), this was the 07 STi that was on the lot at Walser Subaru in Burnsville. I have to say that I am EXTREMELY impressed with the Walser staff. They treated me VERY well throughout this entire transaction. Never before have I walked away from a dealership with this level of confidence in the integrity of their staff. The sales and service staff all stood behind their work and did exactly what they promised they would do in the event of a problem with the vehicle. They were straight forward and up front with every aspect of the transaction (and unfortunately two returns). As soon as they saw the alarm system had been forcefully ripped out in such away that it likely damaged the ECU, they had the integrity to tell me they could not sell the car in good faith and the only ethically sound course of action was to return the STi to auction. Granted, I'm sure the whole bit about "this is going to get really expensive for us if it keeps coming back" played a good sized role in that decision as well, but still. They could have tried to unload it on me even though they didn't thave confidence in the car. Unfortunately they did not have a GT on the lot for me to purchase. This bummed me out a bit because I would have liked to reward Walser's stand-up business practices with a sale on a brand new unit, but what can you do? I'm not usually one to contact corporate over customer service (good or bad), but in this case I feel compelled to let SOA know how pleased I was with Walser's staff. While they didn't make a sale this time around, something tells me they have firmly secured a future purchase once I talk the Mrs. out of a *shudder*Ford Edge*shudder* and get her sold on a new Outback instead. In the mean time, daddy is enjoying his new ride. Based on the grumblings I'm seeing on Nabisco®, so is COBB. Looks like this might get interesting pretty soon... Pics to follow shortly, though I suspect most of you already know what a bone-stock black w/tan interior 2010 LGT Limited looks like off the lot. Here's a couple quickies I snapped on my phone for wifely approval after my test drive:
I am a big fan of the new legacy though, congrats on the purchase! You are missing the Y on the Legacy on the trunk by the way...
Well piss, I completely missed that. Not sure I care too much. I'll either de-badge or just order it up, I suppose.
They better take care of it at Luther, especially if you show them that picture of after your test drive.
And so they did. Now if I can just do something about the ass end... I have high hopes for RalliTek's ARB. We'll see.
I have no doubt you'll catch me sooner or later. I'm still in the "find any excuse to go for a drive" stage of ownership. Though from what I hear, this stage has a tendency to border on indefinite for subies. Anywho, if you see a black "Legac" GT running around, that's me. Or at least that's me until the dealership gets the missing "y" put back on.
