Well...I have no explaination other then a weired sound came from the engine bay...so it turns out the pully tentionar for the ac belt is melted...the only question is WTF??? why would it b plastic...the pics should explain everything...my quick soluation was to lose the ac...but still WTF??????????? Moh
Same exact thing happened to my pully assist. This is what happens when the berrings seize up, not that big of a deal. Cost ya about 34 bucks for parts at the dealership.
its like a wooble whipping noise....the belt gets loose and slaps against the timing belt cover. The only reason why I could think that they are plastic is because the berrings will eventually burn out, and if the pulley was metal....well you'd have a busted belt and a car which would be no go.
Take that back....it's only connected to the a/c....less spinning mass maybe?? Your guess is as good as mine.
There was a super cession if i recall correctly... And actually the parts move to an assembly of pulley and adjuster.
ahh..this is what you must have sent me the other day. my phone couldnt receive it so there was no picture. like said before, easy fix, just pick one up from the dealership
I told you!!!!! hey....does it feel faster now running without the AC pulley and belt being turned???
The pulley is plastic because of cost and is extremely common to use plastic for accessory pulleys and tensioners. I bet the bearing began to fail and the belt slipped on the pulley wearing down the plastic.
The one I just pulled out of the STi was metal... It is also $50 to replace (minus discount). Mine hadn't seized, yet, but the bearings were loose and there was a coating of metal 'dust' on the pulley.
exactly.. just did one on a malibu... chill out.. besides.. that DOES NOT just happen instantly.... that bearing would have been making some noise a little while before that happened... a bearing does not just seize.... (commonly)
not sure on the subaru... the one we put in the malibu was a napa one, which technically is aftermarket...and it was all metal instead of the plastic style but as far as performance style aftermarket.. I doubt it... after all it's just a bearing pressed into a pulley... wouldnt make too much difference in power or performance...
ha ha, I have been staring at that for a while now too, lol It gives you the illusion that he has a super wide thumb and half the nail is missing exposing a pruned looking under-layer of nasty skin. Good stuff.
lol...u guys are crazy...looking at my sexy thump...lol.......... Well...yeah after I took it off...I don't want to say it's faster but defenitlly less stress...well i guess because it was probebly getting messed up for a while now...till it got to that point...but now i am ok with it completely offf...I dn't think ill need the ac anytime soon...lol...
