Ok here's the deal. I've been looking for a used AP for an 05 STi for about a week now and i finally found a guy in long island that will sell me his for $500 cash. SO i plan on driving there tomorrow after class and buying it. What should i look for in particular when inspecting it? Some questions i had were:

    1) How can i be sure it's for an 05 STi and not something else?
    2) How can i be sure it's been properly unmated from the previous ECU?
    3) What the heck else is important that i should look over?

Nice find. Nice price. Worth the wait huh?

    1) check the back. There should be a serial number and it should say which model its for.
    2) There may be other ways, but the only one I know of is to hook it up to yr car then and there. If its unmarried it'll let you flash the ecu, if its married it should have a corresponding message.
    3) The cords (AP to car, AP to computer) and the power block. Instructions you can get online.

    Hope that helps

Yeah it was more of a monetary restriction than self control that caused it though hahaha.

Thanks for the quick answers! Is there anyway in particular i need to hook up the AP to check to assure that it's been unmated just incase he doesn't have the directions?

I'm not sure about that... maybe if you plug it in via the power block... I'll check in a minute.

Maybe you can tell him yr battery is low and ask if you can flash it when you buy it... That way, in case you get the low-voltage warning, he can jump yr car.

yeah, if you plug it into the wall it should power up and tell you what car its for. Then you can browse the menu and see what (if any) map is loaded. Im not 100% sure, but I'm assuming if its unmarried, it will say so.
