I want to get a set of side markers on my WRX. To those that have done it, how do you go about doing installing them? Anybody wanna help...
push up on it and the bottom will pop out. More details: http://www.scoobymods.com/forums/showthread.php?threadid=529
they are actually easier then u think. u just slide them in the upward direction and they should just pop out then disconnect the light from it and put the new ones on the do the opposite...thats how i did it at least.
No, not the clear corners next to the headlight. What I meant was the side markers......like on European cars like Bimmers, Audi, Saab, etc. Its should be located in between the front wheel well and the driver's door and front passenger door.
OK, I'm here. I have the templates you need, I can email them to you. But they will get your measurements pretty darn close. First, you will need these tools/materials Newspaper Painters tape Nibbler Dremel Some electrical wire (14gauge stranded) Electrical tape Soldering iron Clear silicone adhesive Wire snips/strippers An electric drill with a 3/8" drill bit. Step 1) Remove all the plastic underarmor from your fender wells...or at least enough for you to reach around in there. Step 2) On the templates, cut the area out where the sidemarker is supposed to go with a pair of scissors. Step 3) Tape the templates to your car making sure all the positioning lines line up. Step 4) Using a sharpie, dot out the area where the sidemarker should go on the fender. (Yes, you are drawing on your paint with a sharpie, get over it) Step 5) Once you have marked where the hole will go, remove the templates. Step 6) Using painters tape, tape around the hole area. You want to cover about 8-12 inches in all directions, especially DOWN. This is to keep metal shavings off the good paint. After taping, tape news paper around that area you just taped. Step 7) Using the 3/8" (or bigger) drill bit, drill a hole in the area where the sidemarker is to go. You want to apply as little pressure to the drill as possible to keep from denting your fenders (aluminum) Step 8) Start at the hole you just drilled. Use the nibbler to nibble out the space that you've traced out with the sharpie. Step 9) Using the dremel, fine cut your hole (the nibbler will get you rough cuts but it is faster than a dremel) Make sure to get as close to that black line as possible...you might need to do this a couple times. Step 10) Test fit your sidemarker. You are checking to make sure the sidemarker tabs will lock in place. If you are comfortable with the fitment. Proceed to the next step. Step 11) Wire your sidemarker to the turnsignal. I recommend you wire it through that hole you just made, otherwise you'll have to cut the wires and do it over to get the wires through that hole. Step 12) Once it is wired, test it. Make SURE it works. Hazards are the fastest way. If they work, tape up your solder points and move on. Step 13) Apply a bead of silicone adhesive to the backside of the sidemarker...there is a little lip around the outside of it that you want to get this stuff on. Step 14) Remove the painters tape from around the hole and stick that baby in. THe silicone adhesive will smear everywhere, but it isn't too hard to get it off of there. Step 15) Repeat on other side of car Step 16) Pat self on back! You did it, you're something else.
I will do this for you, but it will be for a fee. Only reason I'd charge for something like this when I usually do not, is because it is very involved. It took me about 4 hours to do mine.
