just curious..........how good does an Automatic Transmission WRX drive?...........................I have a manual, but a buddy of mine wants an automatic for his wife. How is the power delivery?

I know it wont be up to par with a manual..........but is the automatic tranny accelerate like a automatic corolla/civic. Or is it more like a V6 auto vehicle.

    You comments are appreciated.

oh, lame my butt. My Auto RS is just fine. I am not sure about a wrx though as I have not driven an auto one... I wouldn't expect too much difference.

besides, most girls are not too terribly concerned with the "omg turboez!!" and "give me more POWAH LOL" things that most of you guys are all into ;) So tell him get it for her. Or to get her an auto RS.

Either way, she'll love to drive it. And it will handle well, especially in traffic downtown.

MINE feels best when it's up to speed, but as long as I can get away from the person trying to tailgate me if I need to, that is what matters.
Also, it goes ... I can't really compare it to a civic or anything, because I have never driven one of those, but when you tell it to go .. it will listen. Well.

I know that the Auto RS has good power delivery all around....especially down low with a lot of torque.

The WRX might be a slouch from the get-go.........just not sure how bad. My buddy's wondering b/c he probably wants to drive the car as well. He perfer the WRX over the RS tho...

an RS has a totally different intial feel it will have that initial punch that the wrx wont have...the wrx is totally dead when you hit the gas (stock) with an auto, and takes a while to come alive.

That is no good. Glad I went with the RS then ;)

I thought that an auto wrx was really hard to come by ... ?

why not just teach her to drive a manual? I taught my gf in like 20 minutes and i'm pretty confident with her driving my car around on her own if she needs to. It's not that hard of a concept.. Plus a girl driving a manual is a big turn on, imo

yes the rs has a totally different feel down low, the wife had a Rs and now has a wrx auto and the wrx has ALOT less power down low. Thats why we have to upgrade with some new parts :)

Spoken just like someone that has never owned or driven one.

I guess mine has been modded so long I really don't remember what the stocker was like, but definitly do a converter and tranny cooler. The converter makes a HUGE difference in the wrx. Now with all moy mods, I can break all 4 loose on a good hard launch and even just mashing the gas will break the fronts loose once boost hits.

My 6 cylinder makes 1250 lb/ft of torque.
Stock for stock, the 06+ drives much better than the 02-05 thanks to the low end torque from the 2.5l. The lag on a stock car definitley changes the character of the car between that and a manual transmission. A few mods and you're in business though ;)

i had a forester XT auto, and it didn't have the power down low but it hits boost really fast that it doesn't seem like not power down low...

My husband (manochromanic) talked me into buying my auto wrx. I love it! I don't think it feels anything like a honda civic. The rex may lack some power but like a couple other people mentioned you can always add some mods to change that.

When I first got into it the car had enough power for me. Now that I've owned it for a year and gotten used to how it handles and drives I'm ready to add more power! Even if it's an auto my car can still put other cars to shame on the road!

Oh, why does he prefer the wrx? Is it for looks? Because my 05 RS is practically indistinguishable from a wrx. If I had a hood with a scoop and debadged it, none of you would know the difference from a distance (and nobody on the road would unless they were subie fans)

just sayin ... if you're gonna go for an auto, go for more bang for the buck so to speak ;)

In stock form...its almost a safety hazard there is such a lack of low end grunt. From a dig, its awesome, from a roll...needs some help. I am referring to my cobb stage 2 car with a modified TC.
