Drove my '02 WRX all year every year. It's a great winter car, the snow has no chance. I'm looking forward to winter in the STi, should be fun.

Dont be scared. AWD was designed for the winter. Just remember to use the power to pull yourself through and not to hit the brakes. I have made that mistake far too many times

I bought my subie mainly cuz I wanted a good vehicle in the winter as well as a fun to drive vehicle in the summer. I just make sure I get the underside washed regularly. I'm already looking forward to this winter!

^completely agree!! Half the fun of owning one is to be able to drive it in the winter...maybe ever more than half. I believe i get more excited driving on snow than i do at a course.

you can get the undercoat/paint protection/sill spray treatment from the dealer.
your nose will get chipped up, and your stock exhaust will rust, but thats about it.

I'm not sure what the dealer sill spray is, but I bought some rust protectant spray from autozone. I got under the car, removed all the rust, and sprayed the hell out of anything I thought would rust. I put some engine enamel paint on the high heat exhaust areas etc. I'm hoping this helps the rust this winter.

    You poor, poor, deprived man...

+1 to the winter driving...albiet with some decent winter oriented tires. If you're garaging it, you're really missing out.

Now if you're not used to winter driving, snow ice and such, or am new to awd(or rwd), you might want to take it easy come winter. Having a high powered subaru with a very nice awd system and using it safely are two completely different things.

As far as the rust comment, yeah, well, it's life. Either you aviod winter and any kind of salt all together or you expect your car to rust. I don't think Subaru is that for rust. It's nothing like Ford when it comes to rusting. Still, keep an eye on scratches, maybe get some rust protection, or do whatever else you think you'll need to do to keep the car in good shape.

I don't know, I've had my '02 since November of '01 and had it through 4 winters and the only visible rust anywhere on it is a dime size patch on the exhaust outlet.. I drove it everyday no matter what and only washed it every month or so.

Now the forester, that's the winter car supreme. Aside from a snowcat, nothing ignores winter better.

    Winter

Two winters ago my girlfriend lived in Stevens Square, which has notoriously narrow, crowded, and seldom-plowed streets. I always got a chuckle out of people rocking their cars back and forth, fruitlessly trying to get out of a parking space. I've never gotten stuck in my SVX with Blizzaks, even in 10 inches of snow. Its awesome.

I have a tow rope, have pulled a few cars out of nasty spots with it. Good times...

Winter was one of the main reasons why I bought a Subaru.

C'mon, guys, it's not like these are exotics that should live in the garage once it gets cold out.

I drive the STi in winter as well. No need to baby the car, it will depreciate sitting in your garage anyways so might as well have fun!

drive it all year round...on the lake, while ice fishing else where, go play with the car and then come back to check on the poles..and since most subarus come with that protecting frame thingy...its not a problem at all..hey...subarus are made not to be babied...so...go and drift slide whatever...just have fun
