k i know its like 90 degrees out but hey this is the off topic forum right? i got my first issue of transworld for this season the other day and i'm already lookin forward to snow. how many people do we have on here that are avid snowboarders? i am in desperate need of more people to ride with this season as a lot of my friends are away at college in the winter i didnt get out much last winter. Ive been ridin for about 5 years and still haven't made it out west and i'd love to do that this winter too if theres a lot of guys on here maybe we could set somthin up. i got an extra setup i'll prolly be sellin this fall when it gets closer to snowing if anyone is interested in starting.

the only thing snowboarders do is take up space sitting on their arses on the slope. Skiing is a real sport. j/p. Anyways i'm down for going anytime. 2.5~rs...where do you have a pass to?

yeah afton has always been my favorite around here. i used to go to hyland a lot like 2-3 years ago but i'm not really into park ridin anymore and theres not much else there so its usually afton or spirit for me.

I just bought my stuff last year. I've been skiing for quite a while, but wanted to try boarding. I've only been out like 4 times. It's usually afton. A bunch of my friends make a trip up to lutsen every February which is a blast.
Every year I say I gotta go more often....

i think we need to plan something.. i think this would be a great way to get more members active.. it really wouldnt even have to be a trip out west. but maybe a trip for a weekend to spirit or lutsen.. theres also some great places in michigan...but damn its so far away

o and here is the current setup:

    rome anthem 161

    salomon spx5 bindings

    salomon fusion f20 boots

i love this setup more than anything ive rode before, the salomon stuff has come a long ways in the last couple years and the bindings are awsome with the biggest toe ramp ever which works great with big feet, and the boots are the most comfortable ive ever tried on, and they got an awesome quick lace pull cord system. and rome boards are t3h win!

yeah customs are awesome too, to be honest its pretty much the same as a rome anthem. being that 2 of the top designers at burton that created the custom and most of burtons other stuff left the company and started rome.

This will be my 14th or 15th season of riding this coming winter.

^^^ Here's a shot of me from a few years back rippin' up the backcountry in Montana -- Big Mountain, to be exact. The name of this OB region is known as Canyon Creek to the locals.

^^^ Here's a shot to give you an idea of how f*#$ing steep the avy chute in Canyon Creek from the above photo is.

I only made one trip last year, but it was one of my best days of riding ever. It was at this crazy ass place in Colorado called Silverton Mountain. http://www.silvertonmountain.com/

Basically, it is one rickety, old lift that takes you up to around 12300 feet, and from there, you can hike up to 13487 feet!!! Basically, the idea of the "resort" (the "chalet" is a tent with a keg, lol) is to hike to the goods with a guide. We got 5 runs in during our 7-8 hour day. Talk about a friggin' workout, lol.

Pretty much all of the photos on the Silverton Mountain gallary are the exact same spots that our guide took us -- I scared the crap out of myself several times that day. Part of the "lift ticket" price includes avalanche trancievers and probes. Danger :!:

Basically, I don't ride in MN anymore -- it's too flat, lol.

Oh yeah, I got really drunk off of 3 beers at Silverton Mountain's base camp. Alcohol has a pretty strong effect when you are at 11000 feet, hehehe.

Hell yeah, I couldn't agree with you more. I knew we were in trouble in Silverton when I was intimidated by the sheer steepness of the path that the lift took (it looked burly, lol).

There were a few spots that we rode where there were 55+ degree sections. Basically with something as steep as that, you can stop on your toeside edge, and stand there and touch the ground.

Yeah, basically riding in the mountains is completely different from here. Everything is SOOOOOO much larger and burlier, it's hard to comprehend until you experience it first hand.

The steepest slope at Afton would probably be an average blue square run out west, but for 2000+ vertical feet, not 350.

Afton sux after going there alot. All the runs are to fast. I guess its the best place around the cities though. Best black diamond is sally's valley...can get some good g's. But its over in about 4 seconds. There is a lip where you can pull some serious tricks...however i believe i am starting to get to old for that shiznit.

hey tom thats the kind of snow i need this winter, ive been out to michigan and stuff and 7-8 inches of fresh powder one morning was the best ive ever rode on, if we could get some interest in an mnsubaru out west trip i'd be interested for sure if i could get out of work and stuff. we could even talk to some other local clubs for more people if we needed to. if not out west we should at least do a lutsen or michigan weekend, maybe even a couple through the winter. its good to know there is some boarders (and a tinky-winky the skiier) on here, mnbodyman with the silver wagon snowboards too i'm pretty sure, he'll find this thread sooner or later.

I have been skiing since i was 10 or so, and boarding since i was about 14. I took it up after skiing became kinda boring here in the midwest. I have been out west many times, but have only boarded Big Sky and Bridger Bowl in Montana. Since I have returned to MN for skiing and boarding.....I find I spend much more time drinking in the chalets talking about what its like out West than actually skiing or boarding. Its just so boring here!!!!! Granted the Ice does keep you on your toes here though- Matt

    Freakin' newbs! ;)

I have been riding for 17 years! Hell, they didn't even let boards on any ski hills when I started... I competed for one year, as an amateur, back in '91. I was 6th overall in the midwest! 8)

Anyway, I lived in CO for a season, lived in Leadville and worked (for all of 2 months) at Copper Mountain as a lift op. We had Vail season passes that cost $400 if you bought before Halloween (and had a CO license)! We went through 63 kegs between Halloween and New Years in our little 3 bedroom apartment. ...now that is living! ;)

I don't ride too much anymore, too old and too busy! I still have no hair on my left leg just above my ankle from my boots...it is a strange looking bald patch.

I try to get back out to CO once a season for vacation, but work limited that to 1 day at Winter Park last year... Maybe more this year?

Anyway, back to your regular scheduled program...

wow we got a snowboarding pioneer on the board, i'm not such a newb afterall i said 5 years but then i was thinkin about it and this will be my 7th season, and then i started thinkin more and i really suck for having 7 years experience, haha. you know what would be really cool is if we could set somthin up with some nasioc and clubwrx guys out in colorado or utah, i know there is tons of snowboarders on both those forums in those areas, especially salt lake city, park city utah anyone???

I also enjoy riding, I've only been doing it for about 3 years and I'm not good, but I have fun. I used to ski quite a bit when I was younger and just decided to buy a board after I graduated college. I usually go to Afton also because its close, I haven't been out west but really want to go. I'd be down to ride out at Afton this winter sometime.

    Current setup
    Board: Ride theory '03-04 159
    Bindings: Burton Cartel 04
    Boots: Burton Hail

I still have my Burton Craig Kelly Slopestyle (171cm) board! I bought it in '90, I believe, and I rode that while I competed... how many people are riding 171s in the halfpipe now? 8) I was 8th overall in the halfpipe (3rd in slopestyle, I think)!

Also, I don't think Brushie had a pro model until the early 90's, buit I could be remembering wrong...

...Just looked it up, first Brushie model was '93...

Are you kidding?! You obviously never rode the pipes at Trollhaugen, Hyland, or Wild Mtn! Back then they were 8-10' high with a foot of vert. I remember one year at Trollhaugen that the walls were about 12' high. No, they are not superpipes, but things have definitely become easier to ride (no vert, big transitions, and Pipe Dragons). 8)

No, you are not really a noob, but many people on here were still in their diapers when I started riding. :p

I used to work at a ski lift in VA.

I can get down a hill on a board, slowly, and mostly sideways with the board.

That's about good enough for me. It kills my ankles.
