Over here in Eden Prairie I just payed $2.23 for 93 octane. And the Fed just said they expect prices to rise another $0.20 nation wide. My brother in California is paying $2.64 for regular crappy california gas! Gonna have to start driving like a grandma.

Still under $2 for 93 up here in the sticks. Unfortunately I had to fill up near work in Maple Grove for something like $2.10, but it was only a difference of ~$1.20.

These current gas costs... for my car which usually gets 12-12.5 gallons of gas each fill every other week or so I'm only really spending another $5 from what I was paying a year ago. $5 every two weeks? Big f'in deal. I'm actually glad to pay that extra cash because at least I know we're sticking it to the SUV owners who drive them 'because they can'.

What we need to do is find a source for toluene. Large quantities. We can than run 91 and mix in some toluene and make our own race gas.}:)

DO NOT buy tolulene from Home Depot. That's the tainted variant of it I believe used to strip paint. You need a refined version of it available by license from chemical distributors. Also "witch's brew" gas is very unstable because the tolulene mix hardly ever sets with the gas properly so if it isn't used fast (like in a couple days) the parts will seperate. I've seen people use it for rally cars but even then it's just easier to use pump gas.

I remember having a big discussion about this over on SpecialStage a couple years ago. Ask Todd or Mark about mixing your own gas ;)

if you read on nabisco, about 30-40% of the people on there mix thier own gas. Most of the chicago guys do, just the thier gas is crap. I think the most common ratio is 10% or so. There are a couple of posts about it, but I haven't really had a chance to look into it to much.

I was in New York City this past weekend and gas there is $2.21 Regular and $2.39 Premium. I have to put in premium and that's why you don't drive in NYC. ;)

I like to drive my car = I will pay whatever the cost is for gas

It's not even expensive. Drive an RB5 around Scotland for two weeks and see what your petrol expenses were. I swear I spent more money on gas out there than airfare and lodging combined. And I'd do it all over again.

BTW it's still under $2 out here in the sticks, I spent 3 hours today just driving around for my amusement :p

Kind of OT, but where are you guys finding the 93 octane around here. I currently work in Eden Prairie, but will be working downtown in about 3 weeks. I searched a lot of gas stations, but have not found anything higher than 92.

back on topic, I payed 2.199 for 92 last week, I have to fill up this morning, not sure how much it is going to be though.

The only 93 octane I know of is sold from Holiday. In my opinion, Holiday gas is not as good as Amoco/BP. I used Holiday for it's 93 octane, but during startup it would occasionally have my engine work hard to stay idle and the idle would go so low that it would kill the engine in the first few seconds if startup. Amoco/BP gasoline hasn't done that yet. I've talked to a lady I work with who has no problems in her older camry with Amoco and Mobil but all other gasoline brands makes her car run crappy. Sounds like I know which gas brands are the best.

I'm such an idiot. The only gas station I didn't go to because I didn't think they would have it. I did fill up this morning, got a tank full of 93 for 2.139 a gallon. I guess I will probably use this until I get the cobb AP, and then probably switch back to Amoco/BP 92. Has anyone else had problems with Holiday guess like kickin_81 has described?

I agree with Fong, I have noticed that problem for a long time now, Holiday calls it their Earth Friendly GAS. I call it watered down gas. My car flys with Amoco, and you can forget about SA too.

I run Holiday 93 whenever possible. As long as you're getting fuel from any of the larger companies I don't think you're going to see hardly any difference in gas quality. They aren't going to "water it down" or put harsh detergents in them any more than the others will. Besides, Blue Planet gas is local. Flint Hills Resources supplies it, the refinery is in Pine Bend, MN. But if you think it's making a difference go with whatever you think runs best.

My A4 1.8T is measurably faster on BP/Amoco 92 than Holiday 93. Also, I have noticed the car starts up rough with the Holiday 93, but stays 100% smooth on Amoco 92. All it gets now is Amoco/BP 92.. from busy stations so the gas is fresh.

Hmmm, I've used M&H 93, Amoco BP 92 and Holiday 93 since I bought the car new... I haven't notice any difference.

My mini-vans been running on e85 for the last 3 months and it's giving me better gas mileage then the 87... there's a special this weekend for e85 gas for $.85 per gallon. Those who has "flexible-fuel vehicles," I'm glad my van has that capability.

I'm bringing this thread WAY back from the dead. John, those were great links you posted. What I'm doing is taking from those two lists the stations that are in the metro area, geocoding the addresses, and popping them out on a map. I'll post more when I get done with it. :)

In response to the earlier comments about Holiday gas... I have been using it EXCLUSIVELY (while in the TC, anyway)in the RS and STi since buying them (9/99 on the RS) and have never had any issues. Hell, I don't even get pinging in the summer with my first allocation STi without reflash. If you take a look at the numbers, it is a better gas. I don't recall all of the facts, but it contains less sulfur, which is good. It was supposed to be a trial market thing, but it never expanded. From what I read years ago, the reviews were all positive so I don't know where the troubles you have had are coming from. Bad tank maybe? Anyway, just my extensive experience (I average ~22k mi/year)...

    Hey guys, newbie here.

I used mainly Holiday gas, although my two current vehicles do not demand Premium. The station in Inver Grove heights sell plus for the same price as regular and the Premium for only ten cents above that. They are usually very resonable in their prices and don;t jump just because SA does down the street.

This is a good site for gas prices and trends. :http://www.twincitiesgasprices.com/

I guess the station you get it from has the really good stuff. I have used Holiday 93 in my car and have piles of datalogs showing it to be no different from all the other heavily oxygenated 92 octane other stations have. It noticeably limits the amount of advance my ECU wants to run.
