If you use the big filters, 5 quarts.

I've run castrol syntec from day 1 - 5quarts. I use the performance filter too. Holds more oil but more oil will disipate heat better.

Hum..I heard that (in a RS) if you run OEM filter with 5 qt of oil is not good for your car.

Mobil 1 oil 5W-30 in the winter, 10W-30 for summer
Purolator pure 1 filter or mobil 1 filter... Napa Golds are pretty good too but not my preferred filter.

a WRX/STI is a 4.5 qt fill of oil, so i just stop off at Wal-mart and pick up a 5qt jug of Mobil 1 full synthetic for $20

Amsoil filters and oil. John, the dealership for a while had the stock wrx filters and the newer filters for the sti/legacy. The newer filters were pretty small compared to the wrx filters. The amsoil filters are larger than the stockers. When I dump in 5 quarts it is just a touch below the full mark.

I'm also an Amsoil fan. Now I just need to wait until 10k on both cars to switch back to it.

Why 10k?? I started using amsoil at 2k in the wrx and 2.5k in the lgt. The motors are plenty broken in by time we get to them.

I dunno. Just a random number, I guess, lol. I'll probably switch back to it when I get around to putting the stinkpipes back on in the rex.

And here I thought you would come to your senses and go with a catted DP. You'll replace that new car smell with the stink of gasoline. Every driver you pass will pull over, thinking their car is about to catch fire...
